<title>net/sched: sch_codel: clamp default mtu to avoid disabling CoDel</title>

codel_init() sets q-&gt;params.mtu = psched_mtu(qdisc_dev(sch)) without
clamping. A device with a huge MTU (e.g. dummy with max_mtu == 0
accepting MTU 2147483634) makes psched_mtu() return 0x80000000. In
codel_should_drop() the test "*backlog &lt;= params-&gt;mtu" then compares
the backlog against ~2 GiB; with the default sch-&gt;limit of
DEFAULT_CODEL_LIMIT (1000) packets the backlog can never reach it, so
the test is always true and CoDel is silently and completely disabled
i.e no drops, no ECN marking, codel degrades to a tail-drop FIFO.
codel_change() never updates params.mtu, so the init path is the only
place to clamp it. Constrain to [256, 1 &lt;&lt; 20], matching the fq_codel
bound; 256 is a sane floor that only makes CoDel slightly more willing
to act on very small queues, which is the safe direction.

Conditions to recreate the bug: a device whose MTU (plus
hard_header_len) wraps psched_mtu() into the sign bit (e.g. a dummy
device with max_mtu == 0 accepting MTU 2147483634). Requires
CAP_NET_ADMIN in a user namespace.

<title>net/sched: sch_codel: Do not call qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog during peek before restoring qlen</title>

Whenever codel drops packets during peek, it calls
qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog. An issue arises because it calls
qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog before it reincrements the qlen. If qlen drops
to zero, but peek returns an skb, the parent's qlen_notify callback will
be executed even though codel still has 1 packet on the queue and, thus,
will mistakenly deactivate the parent's class causing issues like a wild
memory access when qfq has codel as a child:

Add qstats_backlog_sub() and qstats_backlog_add() helpers
and use them instead of open-coding them.

These helpers use WRITE_ONCE() to prevent store-tearing.

Also use WRITE_ONCE() in fq_reset() and qdisc_reset()
when sch-&gt;qstats.backlog is cleared.

codel_dump_stats() only runs with RTNL held,
reading fields that can be changed in qdisc fast path.

Add READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() annotations.

Alternative would be to acquire the qdisc spinlock, but our long-term
goal is to make qdisc dump operations lockless as much as we can.

tc_codel_xstats fields don't need to be latched atomically,
otherwise this bug would have been caught earlier.

Create new enum qdisc_drop_reason and trace_qdisc_drop tracepoint
for qdisc layer drop diagnostics with direct qdisc context visibility.

The new tracepoint includes qdisc handle, parent, kind (name), and
device information. Existing SKB_DROP_REASON_QDISC_DROP is retained
for backwards compatibility via kfree_skb_reason().

Convert qdiscs with drop reasons to use the new infrastructure.

Change CAKE's cobalt_should_drop() return type from enum skb_drop_reason
to enum qdisc_drop_reason to fix implicit enum conversion warnings.
Use QDISC_DROP_UNSPEC as the 'not dropped' sentinel instead of
SKB_NOT_DROPPED_YET. Both have the same compiled value (0), so the
comparison logic remains semantically equivalent.

cake, codel and fq_codel can drop many packets from dequeue().

Use qdisc_dequeue_drop() so that the freeing can happen
outside of the qdisc spinlock scope.

<title>net/sched: Fix backlog accounting in qdisc_dequeue_internal</title>

<id>urn:sha1:52bf272636bda69587952b35ae97690b8dc89941</id>
<content type='text'>
This issue applies for the following qdiscs: hhf, fq, fq_codel, and
fq_pie, and occurs in their change handlers when adjusting to the new
limit. The problem is the following in the values passed to the
subsequent qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog call given a tbf parent:

   When the tbf parent runs out of tokens, skbs of these qdiscs will
   be placed in gso_skb. Their peek handlers are qdisc_peek_dequeued,
   which accounts for both qlen and backlog. However, in the case of
   qdisc_dequeue_internal, ONLY qlen is accounted for when pulling
   from gso_skb. This means that these qdiscs are missing a
   qdisc_qstats_backlog_dec when dropping packets to satisfy the
   new limit in their change handlers.

   One can observe this issue with the following (with tc patched to
   support a limit of 0):

   export TARGET=fq
   tc qdisc del dev lo root
   tc qdisc add dev lo root handle 1: tbf rate 8bit burst 100b latency 1ms
   tc qdisc replace dev lo handle 3: parent 1:1 $TARGET limit 1000
   echo ''; echo 'add child'; tc -s -d qdisc show dev lo
   ping -I lo -f -c2 -s32 -W0.001 127.0.0.1 2&gt;&amp;1 &gt;/dev/null
   echo ''; echo 'after ping'; tc -s -d qdisc show dev lo
   tc qdisc change dev lo handle 3: parent 1:1 $TARGET limit 0
   echo ''; echo 'after limit drop'; tc -s -d qdisc show dev lo
   tc qdisc replace dev lo handle 2: parent 1:1 sfq
   echo ''; echo 'post graft'; tc -s -d qdisc show dev lo

   The second to last show command shows 0 packets but a positive
   number (74) of backlog bytes. The problem becomes clearer in the
   last show command, where qdisc_purge_queue triggers
   qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog with the positive backlog and causes an
   underflow in the tbf parent's backlog (4096 Mb instead of 0).

To fix this issue, the codepath for all clients of qdisc_dequeue_internal
has been simplified: codel, pie, hhf, fq, fq_pie, and fq_codel.
qdisc_dequeue_internal handles the backlog adjustments for all cases that
do not directly use the dequeue handler.

The old fq_codel_change limit adjustment loop accumulated the arguments to
the subsequent qdisc_tree_reduce_backlog call through the cstats field.
However, this is confusing and error prone as fq_codel_dequeue could also
potentially mutate this field (which qdisc_dequeue_internal calls in the
non gso_skb case), so we have unified the code here with other qdiscs.

Previously, when reducing a qdisc's limit via the -&gt;change() operation, only
the main skb queue was trimmed, potentially leaving packets in the gso_skb
list. This could result in NULL pointer dereference when we only check
sch-&gt;limit against sch-&gt;q.qlen.

This patch introduces a new helper, qdisc_dequeue_internal(), which ensures
both the gso_skb list and the main queue are properly flushed when trimming
excess packets. All relevant qdiscs (codel, fq, fq_codel, fq_pie, hhf, pie)
are updated to use this helper in their -&gt;change() routines.
