After commit b8a1a4cd5a98 ("i2c: Provide a temporary .probe_new() call-back type"), all drivers being converted to .probe_new() and then 03c835f498b5 ("i2c: Switch .probe() to not take an id parameter") convert back to (the new) .probe() to be able to eventually drop .probe_new() from struct i2c_driver. The driver will match mostly by DT table (even thought there is regular ID table) so there is little benefit in of_match_ptr (this also allows ACPI matching via PRP0001, even though it might not be relevant here). As part of the ongoing i2c transition to the simple probe ("probe_new"), this patch uses i2c_match_id to retrieve the driver_data for the probed device. The id parameter is thus no longer necessary and the simple probe can be used instead.
