Found this problem when testing IPv6 from a KVM guest to a remote
host via e1000e device on the host.
The following patch fixes the check for IPv6 GSO packet in Intel
ethernet drivers to use skb_is_gso_v6(). SKB_GSO_DODGY is also set
when packets are forwarded from a guest.

Reset the PHY before first accessing it.  Doing so, ensure that the PHY is
in a known good state before we read/write PHY registers. This fixes a
driver probe failure.

When support for 82577/82578 was added[1] in 2.6.31, PHY wakeup was in-
advertently enabled (even though it does not function properly) on ICH10
LOMs.  This patch makes it so that the ICH10 LOMs use MAC wakeup instead
as was done with the initial support for those devices (i.e. 82567LM-3,
82567LF-3 and 82567V-4).

The MAC-PHY interconnect on 82577/82578 uses a power management feature
(called K1) which must be disabled when in 1Gbps due to a hardware issue on
these parts.  The #define bit setting used to enable/disable K1 is
incorrect and can cause PHY register accesses to stop working altogether
until the next device reset.  This patch sets the register correctly.

This issue is present in kernels since 2.6.32.

Should e1000_test_msi() fail to see an msi interrupt, it attempts to
fallback to legacy INTx interrupts. But an error in the code may prevent
this from happening correctly.

Before calling e1000_test_msi_interrupt(), e1000_test_msi() disables SERR
by clearing the SERR bit from the just read PCI_COMMAND bits as it writes
them back out.

Upon return from calling e1000_test_msi_interrupt(), it re-enables SERR
by writing out the version of PCI_COMMAND it had previously read.

The problem with this is that e1000_test_msi_interrupt() calls
pci_disable_msi(), which eventually ends up in pci_intx(). And because
pci_intx() was called with enable set to 1, the INTX_DISABLE bit gets
cleared from PCI_COMMAND, which is what we want. But when we get back to
e1000_test_msi(), the INTX_DISABLE bit gets inadvertently re-set because
of the attempt by e1000_test_msi() to re-enable SERR.

The solution is to have e1000_test_msi() re-read the PCI_COMMAND bits as
part of its attempt to re-enable SERR.

During debugging/testing of this issue I found that not all the systems
I ran on had the SERR bit set to begin with. And on some of the systems
the same could be said for the INTX_DISABLE bit. Needless to say these
latter systems didn't have a problem falling back to legacy INTx
interrupts with the code as is.

This new PCI device ID is for a new combination of MAC and PHY both of
which already have supporting code in the driver, just not yet in this
combination.  During validation of the device, an intermittent issue was
discovered with waking it from a suspended state which can be resolved with
the pre-existing workaround to disable gigabit speed prior to suspending.

When testing the "e1000: enhance frame fragment detection" (and e1000e)
patches we found some bugs with reducing the MTU size.  The 1024 byte
descriptor used with the 1000 mtu test also (re) introduced the
(originally) reported bug, and causes us to need the e1000_clean_tx_irq
"enhance frame fragment detection" fix.

So what has occured here is that 2.6.32 is only vulnerable for mtu &lt;
1500 due to the jumbo specific routines in both e1000 and e1000e.
So, 2.6.32 needs the 2kB buffer len fix for those smaller MTUs, but
is not vulnerable to the original issue reported.  It has been pointed
out that this vulnerability needs to be patched in older kernels that
don't have the e1000 jumbo routine.  Without the jumbo routines, we
need the "enhance frame fragment detection" fix the e1000, old
e1000e is only vulnerable for &lt; 1500 mtu, and needs a similar
fix.  We split the patches up to provide easy backport paths.

There is only a slight bit of extra code when this fix and the
original "enhance frame fragment detection" fixes are applied, so
please apply both, even though it is a bit of overkill.

e1000e could with a jumbo frame enabled interface, and packet split disabled,
receive a packet that would overflow a single rx buffer.  While in practice
very hard to craft a packet that could abuse this, it is possible.

this is related to CVE-2009-4538

When configuring the OEM bits in the PHY on 82577/82578, do not restart
autonegotiation if the firmware is blocking it (e.g. when an IDE-R session
is active) because the link must not go down.
