When a sleeping task's affinity is changed, task_cpu(p) can be outside of p->cpus_ptr until after select_task_rq() selects a new runqueue for the task during wakeup. Thus, the task's NUMA node determined by numa_select_cpu() can be completely outside of the task's cpumask, leading to scx_pick_{idle,any}_cpu_node() failing to find an eligible CPU and returning -EBUSY. 2026-07-23verification/rvgen: Generate cleanup hook for per-obj monitorGabriele Monaco
Per-object monitors can allocate memory dynamically and such memory is required for the lifetime of the object, then it should be freed with the appropriate call. Force the generation scripts to add a cleanup function the user will need to wire to the appropriate event (e.g. sched_process_exit for tasks). This can be safely removed if the object will never cease to exist before disabling the monitor (e.g. if following only static variables). 2026-07-22perf cs-etm: Avoid truncating AUX buffer sizes to intLeo Yan
cs_etm__get_trace() returns an int, but it used to return etmq->buf_len on success. That value comes from auxtrace_buffer::size, which is a size_t. For a large AUX trace block, returning the byte count through an int can overflow and make a valid buffer look like a negative error. The callers do not need the actual byte count from cs_etm__get_trace(). The buffer length is already stored in the etmq->buf_len. The callers only need to distinguish three states: < 0: error = 0: no more AUX buffers > 0: data is available Make cs_etm__get_trace() return 0 for all non-error cases and use etmq->buf_len to indicate whether a new buffer was found. Then make cs_etm__get_data_block() return 1 whenever data is available, instead of returning the buffer length. Also refactor cs_etm__get_data_block() to make its return value semantics clearer. 2026-07-22bitmap: Replace __ASSEMBLY__ with __ASSEMBLER__ in header filesThomas Huth
While the GCC and Clang compilers already define __ASSEMBLER__ automatically when compiling assembly code, __ASSEMBLY__ is a macro that only gets defined by the Makefiles in the kernel. This can be very confusing when switching between userspace and kernelspace coding, or when dealing with uapi headers that rather should use __ASSEMBLER__ instead. So let's standardize now on the __ASSEMBLER__ macro that is provided by the compilers. This is a completely mechanical patch (done with a simple "sed -i" statement). 2026-07-22selftests: netfilter: nft_flowtable.sh: fix offload counter verification for ↵Lorenzo Bianconi
tunnel tests The IPIP and IP6IP6 tunnel tests call check_counters() to verify flowtable offloading occurred, but the flow-add rule only matches meta oif "veth1". When traffic is routed through a tunnel device, oif is the tunnel interface (tun0, tun6, etc.), not veth1, so the flow-add rule never fires, no flowtable entry is created, and counters stay at zero — producing a silent false pass. Fix by adding tunnel-specific flow-add rules for each tunnel interface. These match TCP dport 12345 traffic before the bare accept rule, set ct mark, add the flow to the flowtable, and increment routed_orig. The existing routed_repl rule on veth0 already handles the reply direction since decapsulated reply packets exit through the physical interface. Also add check_counters() for the IP6IP6 non-VLAN and IP6IP6-over-VLAN tests which previously used a bare PASS message. 2026-07-22tools/sched_ext: scx_pair: Convert to sched_switch TPCheng-Yang Chou
ops.cpu_acquire/release() are deprecated in favor of tracking CPU preemption from a sched_switch tracepoint, see commit a3f5d4822253 ("sched_ext: Allow scx_bpf_reenqueue_local() to be called from anywhere"). Loading scx_pair currently emits a deprecation warning. Replace the pair_cpu_acquire/release() callbacks with a tp_btf/sched_switch program that edge-detects the same transitions the core used to deliver: a release when a running SCX task loses its CPU to a higher-priority class, and an acquire when the CPU switches back to an SCX task or idle while marked preempted. Tasks are classified by effective priority (p->prio) rather than by policy: rt_mutex_setprio() boosts a PI beneficiary into the rt/dl classes while leaving its policy untouched, so a policy test would both miss the release when a boosted task takes the CPU and fire a spurious acquire when a boosted task replaces a real rt task. A switch from idle straight to a higher-priority task is deliberately not treated as a release. The CPU was not running an SCX task, so there is nothing to drain, and kicking SCX_KICK_PREEMPT | SCX_KICK_WAIT on every rt wakeup would make the pair CPU wait out rt bursts it was never coupled to. The old callbacks behaved the same way, firing ops.cpu_release() only from switch_class() when an SCX task was put for a higher class. The tracepoint runs on every context switch in the system, so the common no-transition case is filtered before taking the pair-shared lock. This is safe because a CPU's own preempted_mask bit is only ever written by this tracepoint running on that CPU. sched_setscheduler() on a running task changes class in place without a context switch, so such transitions are only observed at the task's next switch. The old callbacks had the same blind spot in switch_class(), and try_dispatch() already bounds the resulting wait. Verified in virtme-ng with the script below. The scheduler must load without the deprecation warning, stay enabled through the rt churn and the idle soak (the watchdog would otherwise abort it with "runnable task stall"), keep its preemption counter advancing, and unregister cleanly at the end. 2026-07-22libarena: Use compiler load-acquire/store-release in bpf_atomic.hPuranjay Mohan
Teach libarena's BPF atomic primitives to use compiler builtins for load-acquire and store-release when Clang advertises __BPF_FEATURE_LOAD_ACQ_STORE_REL. Older compilers continue to use the existing barrier-based fallback. Notably, as BPF programs begin running on arm64, it is better to use the more appropriate variants since we can no longer rely on x86 TSO ordering. Commit 880442305a39 ("bpf: Introduce load-acquire and store-release instructions") introduced support, hence kernels from 6.15 onwards are needed when compiling with compilers supporting these instructions. We have relatively recent kernel version requirements in libarena anyway, and have not cut first release, hence declare such a dependency. 2026-07-22tools/power: intel_pstate_tracer: avoid optional imports for helpYousef Alhouseen
intel_pstate_tracer imports Gnuplot and numpy before parsing command-line options. As a result, even "-h" fails if those optional runtime modules are not installed. Move the imports to the paths that need them. This lets the help and invalid-argument paths describe usage without requiring plotting/data dependencies. While there, fix a typo in the help text and matching comments. 2026-07-22selftests: seg6: add test for post-encap SID route lookupAndrea Mayer
Add a selftest for the SEG6_IPTUNNEL_TABLE attribute, which selects the FIB table for the post-encap SID route lookup. This looks up the route for the first SID, the outer destination of the encapsulated packet. Two routers provide L3 VPN services over an IPv6 underlay. Each router uses a separate VRF per tenant, with default blackhole routes (IPv4 and IPv6) that drop unmatched traffic. Tenant traffic is encapsulated, then decapsulated with an End.DT46. The encap routes are installed in the tenant VRF, but the routes that match the first SIDs live in a separate underlay table (500). The "lookup 500" attribute points the lookup there rather than to the VRF. The test covers both the input path, where forwarded host traffic triggers encapsulation, and the output path, where a router originates traffic from its own loopback inside a VRF. With the "lookup" attribute, traffic reaches its destination on both paths. Without it, on the input path the lookup stays in the VRF and hits the blackhole, and on the output path it falls through to the main table, which has no matching route. 2026-07-22selftests: net: Add a test for BIG TCP in UDP tunnelsAlice Mikityanska
The test sets up VXLAN and GENEVE tunnels over IPv4 and IPv6 and runs IPv4 and IPv6 traffic through them with BIG TCP enabled. It checks that a non-negligible amount of big aggregated packets are seen by setting up iptables counters. Check the number of packets on both TX and RX sides to verify that GSO packets are valid and not dropped. Capture on the lower netdev (veth), when checksum offload is on, to verify that encapsulated BIG TCP packets can get to their destination. In the test with TX checksum offload off, software GSO splits aggregated VXLAN packets before passing them to veth, so capture inside the tunnel instead to check that the big packets are not dropped. Check that the amount of SACKs is negligible. On unsupported kernels, some amount of broken GSO packets bigger than 65536 bytes can be produced in VXLAN tunnels, but they don't reach the destination. Seeing TCP SACKs is a sign that such packets could have been dropped (in such cases, the amount of SACKs is a few times bigger than the number of attempts to send BIG TCP packets). The kselftests doc mentions that a config file should be present "if a test needs specific kernel config options enabled". This selftest requires some kernel config, but no config file was provided. We could say that a sub-target could use the parent's config file, but the kselftests doc doesn't mention anything about that. Plus the net/openvswitch target is the only net target without a config file. Here is a new config file, which is a trimmed version of the net one, with hopefully the minimal required kconfig on top of 'make defconfig'.
