ufs_empty_dir() scans every directory block to decide whether a
directory is empty before rmdir() removes it. When ufs_get_folio()
cannot read or validate a block it returns an error pointer, and the
loop currently skips that block with continue and keeps scanning the
remaining blocks.

If none of the readable blocks hold an entry, the function returns 1
and the caller unlinks the directory. A directory whose contents live
in a block that cannot be read, for example because of an I/O error or
corrupted directory metadata, is therefore seen as empty and removed,
losing the entries it still holds.

Follow the ext2 behaviour and treat an unreadable block as a reason to
consider the directory not empty, so rmdir() fails instead of
discarding data that could not be verified.

<title>ufs: validate cylinder group metadata before caching it</title>

ufs_read_cylinder() copies the cylinder group index and the rotor
positions straight from the on-disk group and caches them without any
check:

	ucpi-&gt;c_cgx    = fs32_to_cpu(sb, ucg-&gt;cg_cgx);
	ucpi-&gt;c_rotor  = fs32_to_cpu(sb, ucg-&gt;cg_rotor);
	ucpi-&gt;c_frotor = fs32_to_cpu(sb, ucg-&gt;cg_frotor);
	ucpi-&gt;c_irotor = fs32_to_cpu(sb, ucg-&gt;cg_irotor);

They are then used as indices during allocation and free:

  - c_cgx indexes the cylinder summary array as
    UFS_SB(sb)-&gt;fs_cs(ucpi-&gt;c_cgx), so a value past s_ncg writes a 32
    bit count outside the s_csp allocation.

  - c_frotor becomes a bitmap scan start, start = c_frotor &gt;&gt; 3, and
    then length = ((s_fpg + 7) &gt;&gt; 3) - start. A start beyond the block
    bitmap wraps the unsigned length to a huge value, so ubh_scanc()
    walks far past the cylinder group buffers. c_irotor drives the
    inode bitmap the same way.

A crafted image can set any of these freely, turning an ordinary
allocation into an out of bounds access.

Reject a cylinder group whose recorded index does not match the group
being read, or whose rotors fall outside the group, before the metadata
is cached. Valid filesystems keep cg_cgx equal to the group number and
the rotors within the group, so only malformed images are rejected.

ufs_fill_super() installed sb-&gt;s_root before it loaded the cylinder
group structures for a writable mount:

	sb-&gt;s_root = d_make_root(inode);
	...
	if (!sb_rdonly(sb))
		if (!ufs_read_cylinder_structures(sb))
			goto failed;

When ufs_read_cylinder_structures() failed, the error path freed the
in-core superblock information and set sb-&gt;s_fs_info to NULL while
sb-&gt;s_root stayed installed. get_tree_bdev() then reached
deactivate_locked_super(), and because s_root was present,
generic_shutdown_super() called sync_filesystem() and the put_super
operation. Both dereference UFS_SB(sb), which is now NULL, so a mount
that fails only while reading the cylinder groups oopses during
teardown. A crafted image whose first cylinder group cannot be read
reaches this path.

Load the cylinder group metadata first and create the root dentry last,
so the superblock is published to the VFS only once it is fully set up.
ufs_setup_cstotal() and ufs_read_cylinder_structures() take only the
super_block and do not use the root inode, so the reordering is safe.

Pull misc vfs updates from Christian Brauner:
 "Bigger cleanups:

   - The lockref dead-count handling is tidied up.

     The open-coded check for a count below zero as the dead marker
     relies on information the caller should not have.

   - make put_mnt_ns() leave mounts connected. Destroying a mount
     namespace disconnected its mounts from their mount points. So a
     file descriptor still open on the parent of a mount point could be
     used to peek under it.

     Locked mounts were already kept connected to prevent exactly that.
     But a mount is only locked when its tree is copied across a user
     namespace boundary. So a mount namespace set up by a privileged
     component had no locked mounts and its mounts were disconnected.
     Passing UMOUNT_CONNECTED keeps every mount connected and prevents
     that bug.

   - vfs_prepare_mode() passes S_IFDIR for directories. I meant to fix
     that ago but didn't get to it. So now someone finally did it.

     This kills the exception where the mode could be 0 when a directory
     was created whereas every other creation operation passed it
     explicitly already.

   - move long delayed work for ufs, jffs2, hfsplus, hfs and affs from
     the per-cpu system_long_wq to the new unbound system_dfl_long_wq.

     None of that work relies on per-cpu state and the work item is
     enqueued with queue_delayed_work() whose timer is global anyway. So
     it may as well benefit from scheduler task placement.

  Smaller fixes and cleanups:

   - unlock_buffer() and journal_end_buffer_io_sync() use
     clear_and_wake_up_bit()

   - the pipe page pools are unified into a single per-pipe pool and the
     extra wake_up(rd_wait) is limited to EPOLLET consumers

   - eventpoll now computes its timer slack lazily in ep_poll()

   - shrink_dcache_for_umount() keeps making progress on busy roots

   - excess xarray nodes are freed in clear_inode()

   - romfs detects hard link cycles

   - the user path of nested backing files is fixed

   - pidfd holds exec_update_lock around the namespace ioctl

   - non-memcg-aware nr_cached_objects is skipped during memcg slab
     shrink

   - iomap_write_iter() always returns status

   - mangle_path() is renamed to seq_mangle_path()

   - inode timestamp accessors are annotated

   - new regression test for pipe-&gt;poll_usage.

   - a few documentation, kernel-doc and selftest fixes"

The only time that 'false' is passed as the 'excl' arg to the -&gt;create
inode_operation is in lookup_open() when -&gt;atomic_open is not provided
by the parent directory.
*all* directory inode_operations which do not have -&gt;atomic_open
completely ignore the 'excl' arg.

Therefore we don't need the 'excl' arg.  Those few -&gt;create operations
which pay attention to the arg are only ever called with a value of
'true'.

We remove that arg and change all -&gt;create operations to behave as those
thhe arg were 'true'.

Currently the code enqueue work items using {queue|mod}_delayed_work(),
using system_long_wq. This workqueue should be used when long works are
expected and it is a per-cpu workqueue.

The function(s) end up calling __queue_delayed_work(), which set a global
timer that could fire anywhere, enqueuing the work where the timer fired.

Unbound works could benefit from scheduler task placement, to optimize
performance and power consumption. Long work shouldn't stick to a single
CPU.

Recently, a new unbound workqueue specific for long running work has
been added:

    c116737e972e ("workqueue: Add system_dfl_long_wq for long unbound works")

Since the workqueue work doesn't rely on per-cpu variables, there is no
obvious reason that justify the use of a per-cpu workqueue. So change
system_long_wq with system_dfl_long_wq so that the work may benefit from
scheduler task placement.

vfs_mkdir() now sets the S_IFDIR type bit in the mode it passes to
-&gt;mkdir(), so OR-ing S_IFDIR into the mode again in ufs_mkdir() is
redundant. Drop it.

Pull vfs buffer_head updates from Christian Brauner:
 "This cleans up the mess that has accumulated over the years in
  metadata buffer_head tracking for inodes.

  It moves the tracking into dedicated structure in filesystem-private
  part of the inode (so that we don't use private_list, private_data,
  and private_lock in struct address_space), and also moves couple other
  users of private_data and private_list so these are removed from
  struct address_space saving 3 longs in struct inode for 99% of inodes"

The implementation is now really basic so rename generic_file_fsync()
simple_fsync() and __generic_file_fsync() to simple_fsync_noflush().

invalidate_mapping_buffers() never has anything to drop. Remove the
