pcie_aspm_enabled() returns 'pcie_link_state::aspm_enabled' parameter which
contains the enabled states. But the API currently returns the 'bool' type
which is used by the callers to decide if ASPM is enabled or not.
To allow the future callers to also make use of the enabled ASPM states,
return the actual type of 'pcie_link_state::aspm_enabled' parameter, 'u32'.
Existing callers can still treat the return value as a 'bool' as the C11
standard guarantees the behavior (this API relied on the same behavior
before as well).

Add kernel-doc for pci_disable_link_state_locked() API and fix the
kernel-doc for pci_disable_link_state() API.
Also convert the kernel-doc of pci_enable_link_state() and

states
Per PCIe spec r6.0, sec 5.5.4:
If setting either or both of the enable bits for PCI-PM L1 PM Substates,
both ports must be configured as described in this section while in D0.
Currently, the callers of pci_enable_link_state_locked() (vmd, pcie-qcom)
transition the device to D0 themselves before enabling the link state. But
this is easy to get wrong and has to be duplicated by every caller.
Move the D0 transition into the shared __pci_enable_link_state() helper so
that all three APIs pci_enable_link_state(), pci_enable_link_state_locked()
and pci_force_enable_link_state() perform it, and only when the PCI-PM L1
PM Substates are getting enabled.
Now that the helper handles the transition, drop the redundant D0
transition from the vmd and pcie-qcom callers.

pci_enable_link_state() and pci_enable_link_state_locked() APIs only enable
the ASPM states that were not previously disabled via
pci_disable_link_state*() API or blacklisted during init (e.g. the pre-1.1
device blacklist, which is only meant to be overridden with
'pcie_aspm=force'). This is an intentional behavior as these APIs must not
silently re-enable states that were deliberately disabled, since doing so
could enable ASPM on a link where it is known to be unsafe.
However, some drivers (e.g. the atheros WLAN drivers) save the currently
enabled ASPM states, disable all ASPM states before firmware download, and
then try to restore exactly the states that were enabled before. Restoring
those states requires re-enabling states that were just disabled via
pci_disable_link_state() API. But, this cannot be achieved using the
existing APIs.
Hence, add pci_force_enable_link_state() API for such callers. Unlike
pci_enable_link_state(), it re-enables the requested states even if they
were previously disabled via pci_disable_link_state() or disabled during
init. The caller is therefore responsible for only enabling states the
device actually supports, typically the ones previously reported by
pcie_aspm_enabled().
This API is implemented by adding a 'force' parameter to the shared
__pci_enable_link_state() helper. When 'force' is true, the requested
states are cleared from 'link->aspm_disable' before enabling.

PCI core/ASPM service driver allows controlling ASPM state through
pci_disable_link_state() API. It was decided earlier (see the Link below),
to not allow ASPM changes when OS does not have control over it but only
log a warning about the problem 'commit 2add0ec14c25 ("PCI/ASPM: Warn when
driver asks to disable ASPM, but we can't do it")'.
A number of drivers have added workarounds to force ASPM off with own
writes into the Link Control Register (some even with comments explaining
why PCI core does not disable it under some circumstances). According to
the comments, some drivers require ASPM to be off for reliable operation.
Having custom ASPM handling in drivers is problematic because the state
kept in the ASPM service driver is not updated by the changes made outside
the link state management API.
As the first step to address this issue, make pci_disable_link_state() to
unconditionally disable ASPM so the motivation for drivers to come up with
custom ASPM handling code is eliminated.
To fully take advantage of the ASPM handling core provides, the drivers
that need to quirk ASPM have to be altered depend on PCIEASPM and the
custom ASPM code is removed. This is to be done separately. As PCIEASPM is
already behind EXPERT, it should be no problem to limit disabling it for
configurations that do not require touching ASPM.
Make pci_disable_link_state() function comment to comply kerneldoc
formatting while changing the description.

Per PCIe r7.0 sec 6.2.4.3, certain Non-Fatal Errors may be signaled using
ERR_COR instead of ERR_NONFATAL. These "Advisory Non-Fatal Errors" are
listed in sec 6.2.7 and explained in detail in sec 6.2.3.2.4.
Advisory Non-Fatal Errors set bits in the Uncorrectable Error Status
Register as well as one bit in the Correctable Error Status Register
(Advisory Non-Fatal Error Status, bit 13). The latter is masked by
default, hence these errors are currently not signaled at all (except on
non-compliant products which choose to unmask the bit).
Unmask Advisory Non-Fatal Errors on device enumeration.
Some Non-Fatal Errors are always Advisory, others may be Advisory at the
discretion of the detecting agent. If multiple errors occur, the agent
may qualify a portion as non-Advisory and signal ERR_NONFATAL in addition
to ERR_COR. In this case, there's no way to determine which Non-Fatal
Error was Advisory. Assume none is to ensure that the Uncorrectable Error
code path is taken to recover from the errors.
Introduce aer_compute_anfe_status() to compute Advisory Non-Fatal Error
bits from AER registers, based on this policy. Use it for Firmware First
error handling in pci_print_aer(), which receives an AER register dump
from the platform (UEFI r2.11 sec N.2.7).
Introduce aer_get_anfe_status() to read AER registers from a device and
feed them to aer_compute_anfe_status(). Use it for native error handling
in aer_get_device_error_info(), which gathers registers from the device
and caches the computed Advisory Non-Fatal Error bits in a new anfe_status
field in struct aer_err_info.
Regardless whether error handling is native or Firmware First, the AER
driver needs to increment error counters, signal a trace event and log
each error. When Advisory Non-Fatal Errors occur, these steps must be
performed for Correctable Errors and for Uncorrectable Errors. Achieve
this through a recursive invocation of aer_print_error() (for native error
handling) and pci_print_aer() (for Firmware First error handling). The
recursive invocation reports the (Advisory) Uncorrectable Errors after
reporting the Correctable Errors.
Note that the First Error Pointer and TLP Prefix Log is only meaningful
for Uncorrectable Errors, but when Advisory Non-Fatal Errors occur,
aer_get_device_error_info() has to populate the first_error and
tlp_header_valid fields in struct aer_err_info for a Correctable Error.
Avoid incorrectly logging those fields for Correctable Errors by amending
__aer_print_error() and aer_print_error() with conditionals.
Sample log output for an Advisory Unsupported Request Error:

Some platforms require selectively disabling specific ASPM states on a
given PCIe link to avoid link instability or functional failures caused by
board-level connectivity constraints such as PCB routing, connectors,
slots, or external cabling.
Devicetree supports disabling ASPM L0s, L1, and L1 PM Substates via the
'aspm-no-l0s', 'aspm-no-l1' [1], and 'aspm-no-l1ss' [2] properties.
However, the ASPM driver does not currently honor these properties when
initializing the default link state.
When firmware enables L1 PM Substates before the kernel takes over,
masking aspm_support alone is insufficient to disable them in hardware.
pcie_config_aspm_link() guards L1SS configuration behind a check on
aspm_capable, which is derived from aspm_support. Once aspm_support is
masked, pcie_config_aspm_l1ss() is never called, leaving
firmware-enabled L1SS substates active in hardware.
Fix this by introducing pcie_link_has_aspm_override() to check for DT
override properties on either endpoint of the link. In
pcie_aspm_override_default_link_state(), use it to:
- Mask aspm_support, aspm_default, and aspm_enabled for any disabled
state, so software's view of the link stays in sync with what is
actually programmed in hardware. Leaving aspm_enabled stale would make
pcie_aspm_enabled() and the aspm sysfs attributes report a state as
active even after it has been masked, and could cause
pcie_config_aspm_link()'s "already in requested state" check to skip
reprogramming hardware to match.
- Explicitly call pcie_config_aspm_l1ss(link, 0) before masking
aspm_support when firmware has L1SS active and DT requests disabling L1
or L1SS, since pcie_config_aspm_link() will no longer do so once
aspm_capable is derived from the masked aspm_support.
Move the aspm_default initialization and
pcie_aspm_override_default_link_state() call in pcie_aspm_cap_init() to
before the "Restore L0s/L1" block. pcie_aspm_cap_init() disables L1 in
hardware prior to aspm_l1ss_init() and re-enables it only in the restore
block. Calling pcie_config_aspm_l1ss() while L1 is already disabled
satisfies its precondition ("Caller must disable L1 first"), whereas the
previous placement after the restore violated it.
Since the restore block writes back the parent_lnkctl/child_lnkctl snapshot
taken from hardware before the DT override ran, mask the L0s and L1 enable
bits out of that snapshot for any state the override has just disabled in
aspm_support. Otherwise the restore step would unconditionally reprogram
the link back to firmware's original L0s/L1 configuration, defeating the
Devicetree override it is meant to enforce.
Move pcie_config_aspm_l1ss() earlier in the file so it can be called
from pcie_aspm_override_default_link_state().

pcie_aspm_cap_init() disables ASPM L0s/L1 before touching L1SS config, then
restores the pre-existing state afterward. Both steps only ever touched
link->downstream, i.e. function 0 of the downstream component, leaving
sibling functions (>0) on a multi-function device untouched.
This means the "disable" step does not actually disable ASPM link-wide on a
multi-function device: a sibling function can still have L1 enabled even
after this step runs. PCIe r7.0, sec 7.5.3.7, recommends programming the
same ASPM Control value for all functions of a multi-function device, and
pcie_config_aspm_link() already loops over every function on the bus for
exactly this reason.
Loop over every function on linkbus->devices for both the disable and
restore steps, keeping the existing sec 7.5.3.7 ordering (disable
downstream functions before upstream, restore upstream before downstream
functions). The masked pcie_capability_clear_and_set_word() accessor from
the previous commit makes this safe: it only ever touches the ASPM Control
bits, so function-specific bits elsewhere in LNKCTL (e.g. Read Completion
Boundary, CLKREQ Enable) on sibling functions are left untouched.

pcie_aspm_cap_init() disables ASPM L0s/L1 on both ends of the Link
before touching L1SS config, then later restores the LNKCTL state
that was in effect beforehand. Both steps use raw
pcie_capability_write_word() calls: the disable step computes the
new value by hand from a snapshot taken earlier in the function, and
the restore step writes that same snapshot straight back.
Switch both steps to pcie_capability_clear_and_set_word(), masked to
PCI_EXP_LNKCTL_ASPMC, matching the accessor pcie_config_aspm_dev()
already uses elsewhere in this file for the exact same register. This
does a live read-modify-write of just the ASPM Control bits instead of
relying on a stale snapshot for the rest of the word, and is
consistent with how the rest of the file already touches this
register. No functional change.

The PCIe link, when down, needs to be recovered to bring it back. But on
some platforms, that cannot be done in a generic way as link recovery
procedure is platform specific. Add a new pci_host_handle_link_down() that
could be called by the host bridge drivers for a specific Root Port when
the link goes down.
pci_host_handle_link_down() accepts a 'pci_dev' corresponding to the Root
Port that observed the link down event. If CONFIG_PCIEAER is enabled, it
calls pcie_do_recovery() with 'pci_channel_io_frozen' as the state. This
will result in the execution of the AER Fatal error handling code. Since
the link down recovery is pretty much the same as AER Fatal error handling,
reuse pcie_do_recovery() here.
The AER .error_detected() callback will be triggered for all of the
downstream devices, but not for the Root Port itself as there is nothing to
do for the Root Ports in the callbacks. Finally, pci_host_reset_root_port()
will be called for the Root Port, which will reset the Root Port using the
.reset_root_port() callback to recover the link. Once that's done, resume
message will be broadcasted to the bridge and the downstream devices,
indicating successful link recovery.
But if CONFIG_PCIEAER is not enabled in the kernel, only
pci_host_reset_root_port() will be called, which will in turn call
pci_bus_error_reset() to just reset the Root Port as there is no way we
could inform the drivers about link recovery.

Some host bridge devices require resetting the Root Ports in a platform
specific way to recover them from error conditions such as Fatal AER
errors, Link Down, etc. Introduce pci_host_bridge::reset_root_port()

save the Root Port config space before reset and restore it afterwards.
The .reset_root_port() callback is responsible for resetting the given Root

aer_print_source() already logs the Error Source Identification Register:
AER: Multiple Correctable error message received from 0000:b7:02.0
However aer_print_error() subsequently identifies the Error Source once
more by emitting an "Error of this Agent is reported first" message.
The additional message was introduced by commit 0d465f23502e ("PCI: pcie,
aer: fix report of multiple errors") because it deemed the message emitted
by aer_print_source() confusing: When the Multiple ERR_COR Received or
Multiple ERR_FATAL/NONFATAL Received bit in the Root Error Status Register
is set, it doesn't mean that all errors originated from the device in the
Error Source Identification Register. Rather, the errors may have come
from multiple distinct devices. The commit sought to make that clearer.
Achieve the commit's objective by rephrasing the message emitted by
aer_print_source() and drop the additional message logged by
aer_print_error() to reduce dmesg noisiness and simplify the code.
While modifying the log message anyway, fix minor grammatical issues:
Append a plural "s" to "message", add a missing closing brace to "(no
details found" and capitalize "Error" to match the spec.

The AER driver maps detected errors to the corresponding agent and layer
per PCIe r7.0 sec 6.2.7 and logs both.
If multiple errors were detected, their agent and layer may differ.
However the AER driver only logs one agent and one layer for all of them,

PCIe r7.0 sec 6.2.7 documents the agent and layer of each Correctable and
Uncorrectable Error. Based on this spec section, the AER driver maps
detected errors to an agent and layer using a set of macros and logs them.
Most errors listed in sec 6.2.7 map to the "Receiver" agent and
"Transaction Layer", so the macros use these as defaults unless an error
maps to something else.
However the macros have not been amended since their introduction in 2006
with commit 6c2b374d7485 ("PCI-Express AER implemetation: AER core and
aerdriver"). They are still based on PCIe r1.0 sec 7.2.5 (renumbered to
6.2.7 in PCIe r1.1 and newer).
Amend the macros to map errors introduced since then to the appropriate
agent and layer.
PCIe r2.1 introduced a new "Component" agent and "General" layer for
Internal Errors and Header Log Overflow. Add them to the macros.
Unsupported Request is currently mapped to the "Requester" agent, even
though it is reported by the "Receiver". Fix the incorrect mapping.
Sec 6.2.7 neglects to list an agent for Data Link Protocol Error and
Surprise Down Error. Map the latter to "Component" because PCIe r7.0 sec
3.2.1 states that the error is "associated with the detecting Port". Map
the former to "Receiver" because every occurrence of Data Link Protocol
Error in the spec refers to it being logged in the Receiving Port. I have
had these errata reported to the PCI-SIG Protocol Working Group. (There's
also a layout erratum in the REPLAY_NUM Rollover row wherein columns are
shifted to the left, but that's already corrected in the PCIe r7.1 draft
as of 2026-04-07.)

The PCIe port driver fails to probe if it finds no child services,
presumably under the assumption that the driver is not useful in that case.
However, the driver *can* still be useful for power management support --
namely, it still configures the port for runtime PM / D3, which may be
important for allowing a bridge to enter low power modes.
Thus, allow probe to succeed even if no IRQs and no child services are
available. This also mirrors existing behavior for ports that don't support
any portdrv services (PCIe hotplug, AER, DPC, PME, bwctrl), where we'd also
probe successfully.
This change is a bit more important after commit f5cd8a929c82 ("PCI: dwc:
Remove MSI/MSIX capability for Root Port if iMSI-RX is used as MSI
controller"), because it's common for some DWC-based systems to:
1. have only the "aer" and "pcie_pme" port services available and
2. not define legacy INTx interrupts properly in their device tree.
After commit f5cd8a929c82, such systems may fail pcie_init_service_irqs()
and so exit with -ENODEV.

PCIe r7.0, sec 6.2.11, "Implementation Note: Determination of DPC Control",
recommends that "... operating systems always link control of DPC to the
control of Advanced Error Reporting."
Any PCIe device may advertise AER, but only Root Ports and Root Complex
Event Collectors can generate AER interrupts, so the AER driver only binds
to RPs and RCECs.
Any Root Port or Switch Downstream Port may advertise Downstream Port
Containment (DPC), but previously the DPC driver was limited to devices the
AER driver could bind to, i.e., only RPs that advertised AER.
Since any Port with DPC can generate DPC interrupts, allow the DPC driver
to bind to such a Port as long as the OS controls AER, regardless of
whether the AER driver binds to it.

aer_print_error() skips printing if ratelimit_print[i] is not set. In the
native AER path, ratelimit_print is initialized by add_error_device()
during source device discovery, and is set to 1 for fatal errors to bypass
rate limiting since fatal errors should always be logged.
The DPC/EDR path uses the DPC-capable port as the error source and reads
its AER uncorrectable error status registers directly in
dpc_get_aer_uncorrect_severity(). Since it does not go through
add_error_device(), ratelimit_print[0] is left uninitialized and zero. As
a result, aer_print_error() silently drops all AER error messages for
DPC/EDR triggered events.
Set ratelimit_print[0] to 1 to bypass rate limiting and always print AER
logs for uncorrectable errors detected by the DPC port.

When searching for the error source, the AER driver rules out devices whose
enable_cnt is zero. This was introduced in 2009 by commit 28eb27cf0839
("PCI AER: support invalid error source IDs") without providing a
rationale.
Drivers typically call pci_enable_device() on probe, hence the enable_cnt
check essentially filters out unbound devices. At the time of the commit,
drivers had to opt in to AER by calling pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting()
and so any AER-enabled device could be assumed to be bound to a driver.
The check thus made sense because it allowed skipping config space accesses
to devices which were known not to be the error source.
But since 2022, AER is universally enabled on all devices when they are
enumerated, cf. commit f26e58bf6f54 ("PCI/AER: Enable error reporting when
AER is native").
Errors may very well be reported by unbound devices, e.g. due to link
instability. By ruling them out as error source, errors reported by them
are neither logged nor cleared. When they do get bound and another error
occurs, the earlier error is reported together with the new error, which
may confuse users. Stop doing so.

Currently we enable PTM automatically for Root and Switch Upstream Ports if
the advertised capabilities support the relevant role. However, there are a
few issues with this. First of all, if there is no Endpoint that actually
needs the PTM functionality, this is just wasting link bandwidth. There are
just a couple of drivers calling pci_ptm_enable() in the tree.
Secondly, we do the enablement in pci_ptm_init() that is called pretty
early for the Switch Upstream Port before Downstream Ports are even
enumerated. Since the Upstream Port configuration affects the whole Switch,
enabling it this early might cause PTM requests to be sent. We actually do
see effects of this:
pcieport 0000:00:07.1: pciehp: Slot(6-1): Card present
pcieport 0000:00:07.1: pciehp: Slot(6-1): Link Up
pci 0000:2c:00.0: [8086:5786] type 01 class 0x060400 PCIe Switch Upstream Port
...
pci 0000:2c:00.0: PTM enabled, 4ns granularity
At this point we have only enumerated the Switch Upstream Port and now
PTM got enabled which immediately triggers a flood of errors:
pcieport 0000:00:07.1: AER: Multiple Uncorrectable (Non-Fatal) error message received from 0000:00:07.1
pcieport 0000:00:07.1: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Uncorrectable (Non-Fatal), type=Transaction Layer, (Receiver ID)
pcieport 0000:00:07.1: device [8086:d44f] error status/mask=00200000/00000000
pcieport 0000:00:07.1: [21] ACSViol (First)
pcieport 0000:00:07.1: AER: TLP Header: 0x34000000 0x00000052 0x00000000 0x00000000
pcieport 0000:00:07.1: AER: device recovery successful
pcieport 0000:00:07.1: AER: Uncorrectable (Non-Fatal) error message received from 0000:00:07.1
In the above TLP Header the Requester ID is 0 which causes an error as we
have ACS Source Validation enabled.
Change the PTM enablement to happen at the time pci_enable_ptm() is called.
It will try to enable PTM first for upstream devices before enabling for
the Endpoint itself. For disable path we need to keep count of how many
times PTM has been enabled and disable it only on the last, so change the
dev->ptm_enabled to a counter (and rename it to dev->ptm_enable_cnt
analogous to dev->pci_enable_cnt).

When aspm_calc_l12_info() programs the L1 PM Substates Control 1 register
fields Common_Mode_Restore_Time, LTR_L1.2_THRESHOLD_Value and _Scale, it
invokes pci_clear_and_set_config_dword() in an incorrect way:
For the bits to clear it selects those corresponding to the field. So far
so good. But for the bits to set it passes a full register value.
pci_clear_and_set_config_dword() performs a boolean OR operation which
sets all bits of that value, not just the ones that were just cleared.
Thus, when setting the LTR_L1.2_THRESHOLD_Value and _Scale on the child of
an ASPM link, aspm_calc_l12_info() also sets the Common_Mode_Restore_Time.
That's a spec violation: PCIe r7.0 sec 7.8.3.3 says this field is RsvdP
for Upstream Ports. On Adrià's Pixelbook Eve, Common_Mode_Restore_Time
of the Intel 7265 "Stone Peak" wifi card is zero, yet aspm_calc_l12_info()
does not preserve the zero bits but instead programs the value calculated
for the Root Port into the wifi card.
Likewise, when setting the Common_Mode_Restore_Time on the Root Port,
aspm_calc_l12_info() also changes the LTR_L1.2_THRESHOLD_Value and _Scale
from the initial 163840 nsec to 237568 nsec (due to ORing those fields),
only to reduce it afterwards to 106496 nsec.
Amend all invocations of pci_clear_and_set_config_dword() to only set bits
which are cleared.
Finally, when setting the T_POWER_ON_Value and _Scale on the Root Port and
the wifi card, aspm_calc_l12_info() fails to preserve bits declared RsvdP
and instead overwrites them with zeroes. Replace pci_write_config_dword()
with pci_clear_and_set_config_dword() to avoid this.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly

Sadhasivam)
Virtualization:
- Remove an incorrect unlock in pci_slot_trylock() error handling
(Jinhui Guo)
- Lock the bridge device for slot reset (Keith Busch)

Amaoto)
Synopsys DesignWare PCIe controller driver:
- Extend PCI_FIND_NEXT_CAP() and PCI_FIND_NEXT_EXT_CAP() to return a
pointer to the preceding Capability, to allow removal of
Capabilities that are advertised but not fully implemented (Qiang
Yu)
- Remove MSI and MSI-X Capabilities in platforms that can't support

for drivers that support this (Shawn Lin)
- Skip PME_Turn_Off broadcast and L2/L3 transition during suspend if
link is not up to avoid an unnecessary timeout (Manivannan
Sadhasivam)
- Revert dw-rockchip, qcom, and DWC core changes that used link-up
IRQs to trigger enumeration instead of waiting for link to be up
because the PCI core doesn't allocate bus number space for
hierarchies that might be attached (Niklas Cassel)
- Make endpoint iATU entry for MSI permanent instead of programming
it dynamically, which is slow and racy with respect to other
concurrent traffic, e.g., eDMA (Koichiro Den)
- Use iMSI-RX MSI target address when possible to fix endpoints using
32-bit MSI (Shawn Lin)

previously it only worked for PF 0 (Aksh Garg)
- Fix Endpoint non-PF 0 support for BAR configuration, ATU mappings,
and Address Match Mode (Aksh Garg)
- Set up iATU when ECAM is enabled; previously IO and MEM outbound
windows weren't programmed, and ECAM-related iATU entries weren't
restored after suspend/resume, so config accesses failed (Krishna
Chaitanya Chundru)
Miscellaneous:
- Use system_percpu_wq and WQ_PERCPU to explicitly request per-CPU
work so WQ_UNBOUND can eventually be removed (Marco Crivellari)"

- Disable bwctrl on Intel P45 to avoid a boot hang (Ilpo Järvinen)
* pci/bwctrl:
PCI/bwctrl: Disable BW controller on Intel P45 using a quirk
|
|
The commit 665745f27487 ("PCI/bwctrl: Re-add BW notification portdrv as
PCIe BW controller") was found to lead to a boot hang on a Intel P45
system. Testing without setting Link Bandwidth Management Interrupt Enable
(LBMIE) and Link Autonomous Bandwidth Interrupt Enable (LABIE) (PCIe r7.0,
sec 7.5.3.7) in bwctrl allowed system to come up.
P45 is a very old chipset and supports only up to gen2 PCIe, so not having
bwctrl does not seem a huge deficiency.
Add no_bw_notif in struct pci_dev and quirk Intel P45 Root Port with it.

Correctable and Uncorrectable Error Status Registers on reporting agents
are cleared upon PCI device enumeration in pci_aer_init() to flush past
events. They're cleared again when an error is handled by the AER driver.
If an agent reports a new error after pci_aer_init() and before the AER
driver has probed on the corresponding Root Port or Root Complex Event
Collector, that error is not handled by the AER driver: It clears the
Root Error Status Register on probe, but neglects to re-clear the
Correctable and Uncorrectable Error Status Registers on reporting agents.
The error will eventually be reported when another error occurs. Which
is irritating because to an end user it appears as if the earlier error
has just happened.
Amend the AER driver to clear stale errors on reporting agents upon probe.
Skip reporting agents which have not invoked pci_aer_init() yet to avoid
using an uninitialized pdev->aer_cap. They're recognizable by the error
bits in the Device Control register still being clear.
Reporting agents may execute pci_aer_init() after the AER driver has
probed, particularly when devices are hotplugged or removed/rescanned via
sysfs. For this reason, it continues to be necessary that pci_aer_init()
clears Correctable and Uncorrectable Error Status Registers.

Previously program_hpx_type2() applied PCIe settings unconditionally,
which could incorrectly change bits like Extended Tag Field Enable and
Enable Relaxed Ordering.
When _HPX was added to ACPI r3.0, the intent of the PCIe Setting
Record (Type 2) in sec 6.2.7.3 was to configure AER registers when the
OS does not own the AER Capability:
The PCI Express setting record contains ... [the AER] Uncorrectable
Error Mask, Uncorrectable Error Severity, Correctable Error Mask
... to be used when configuring registers in the Advanced Error
Reporting Extended Capability Structure ...
OSPM [1] will only evaluate _HPX with Setting Record – Type 2 if
OSPM is not controlling the PCI Express Advanced Error Reporting
capability.
ACPI r3.0b, sec 6.2.7.3, added more AER registers, including registers
in the PCIe Capability with AER-related bits, and the restriction that
the OS use this only when it owns PCIe native hotplug:
... when configuring PCI Express registers in the Advanced Error
Reporting Extended Capability Structure *or PCI Express Capability
Structure* ...
An OS that has assumed ownership of native hot plug but does not
... have ownership of the AER register set must use ... the Type 2
record to program the AER registers ...
However, since the Type 2 record also includes register bits that
have functions other than AER, the OS must ignore values ... that
are not applicable.
Restrict program_hpx_type2() to only the intended purpose:
- Apply settings only when OS owns PCIe native hotplug but not AER,
- Only touch the AER-related bits (Error Reporting Enables) in Device
Control
- Don't touch Link Control at all, since nothing there seems AER-related,
but log _HPX settings for debugging purposes
Note that Read Completion Boundary is now configured elsewhere, since it is
unrelated to _HPX.

The AER service driver and aer_event tracing currently log 'PCIe Bus Type'
for all errors. Update the driver and aer_event tracing to log 'CXL Bus
Type' for CXL device errors.
This requires that AER can identify and distinguish between PCIe errors and
CXL errors.
Introduce boolean 'is_cxl' to 'struct aer_err_info'. Add assignment in
aer_get_device_error_info() and pci_print_aer().
Update the aer_event trace routine to accept a bus type string parameter.
