- "userfaultfd: working set tracking for VM guest memory" (Kiryl
Shutsemau)
Add userfaultfd support for tracking the working set of VM guest
memory, so a VMM can identify hot pages and reclaim cold ones to
tiered or remote storage
- "mm: remove CONFIG_HAVE_BOOTMEM_INFO_NODE (Part 2)" (David
Hildenbrand)
Remove the remaining pieces of CONFIG_HAVE_BOOTMEM_INFO_NODE,
performing some smaller cleanups around freeing of reserved vmemmap
pages on the way.
- "mm/damon: update probe hits for runtime parameter commits" (SJ Park)
Ensure that DAMON's probe_hits attribute counter is properly updated
when monitoring intervals are changed at runtime, matching the
behavior of nr_accesses. To achieve this, it refactors and renames
existing helper functions for shared use, applies the updates to
probe_hits, and handles edge cases in damon_probe_hits_mvsum() to
maintain measurement accuracy.
- "KSM: performance optimizations for rmap_walk_ksm" (xu xin)
Resolve a severe KSM reverse-mapping performance bottleneck where
thousands of split VMAs sharing a single anon_vma cause extended lock
contention.
By adding an interval-filtering check during the rmap walk, it
reduces worst-case anon_vma lock hold times from over 500ms down to
under 2ms, preventing application freezes and latency spikes under
memory pressure.
- "mm: split a couple of headers from internal.h" (Mike Rapoport)
Split declarations related to mm_init, memblock, vmalloc and sparse
into new headers
- "KSM: use linear_page_index in collect_procs_ksm()" (xu xin)
Apply the interval tree optimization from rmap_walk_ksm() to
collect_procs_ksm() to avoid iterating over non-matching VMAs during
KSM memory error handling.
It hoists loop-invariant address initialization and restricts the
anon_vma_interval_tree_foreach walk to a targeted page offset range,
reducing redundant checks and improving lookup efficiency.
- "selftests/mm: avoid false failures in hugetlb and KSM tests" (Sayali
Patil)
Fix issues in the hugetlb and KSM MM selftest categories that can
report failures when the prerequisites for the tests are not
satisfied
- "mm/damon: introduce data attributes only monitoring" (SJ Park)
Introduce attribute-weighted region management in DAMON, allowing
users to prioritize specific data attributes (such as page sizes or
cgroups) over or instead of access monitoring.
By assigning weights to attribute probes, DAMON can completely
disable access tracking and adjust monitoring regions based on
weighted probe-hit counters to optimize monitoring quality for
attribute-focused workloads.
- "mm/hmm: Add mmap lock-drop support for userfaultfd-backed mappings"
(Stanislav Kinsburskii)
Extend hmm_range_fault() to support userfaultfd-backed regions by
allowing the mmap lock to be dropped during fault handling via a new
hmm_range_fault_locked() helper.
By accepting a locked pointer and signaling retry status when lock
release occurs, it enables page fault resolution in userfaultfd
regions while preserving backward compatibility for existing callers.
- "mm: make VMA page offset handling more consistent" (Lorenzo Stoakes)
Clean up and standardize how vma->vm_pgoff is accessed and
manipulated across file-backed and anonymous mappings in the kernel
It introduces dedicated helper functions such as vma_start_pgoff(),
vma_end_pgoff(), vma_set_pgoff() and linear_page_delta() while
renaming rmap interval tree helpers to better reflect their
functionality.
These changes establish a cleaner foundation for future work that
will unify virtual page offset indexing for all anonymous and CoW'd
folios.
- "mm: handle device-private PMDs in walk callbacks" (Usama Arif)
Address kernel panics and state corruption caused by MM walk
callbacks reaching non-present device-private PMD swap entries
created during HMM migrations
It ensures that functions which acquire pmd_trans_huge_lock()
properly recognize device-private PMDs instead of assuming a present
THP or a standard migration entry.
- "mm/rmap: Refactor try_to_unmap_one" (Dev Jain)
Refactor try_to_unmap_one by modularizing Hugetlb,
anonymous-lazyfree, and anonymous-swapbacked logic into dedicated
functions, laying the structural groundwork for batched anonymous
large folio unmapping.

Fix typos and fills in missing entries in the DAMON sysfs ABI
document
- "dax/kmem: atomic whole-device hotplug via sysfs" (Gregory Price)
Introduce an atomic sysfs state attribute and supporting DAX/MM
infrastructure to prevent userland races when offlining and removing
entire memory regions
By adding an unplugged state alongside standard online modes, it
enables whole-device atomic hotplug control while preserving backward
compatibility.
- "mm: convert more vm_flags_t users to vma_flags_t" (Lorenzo Stoakes)
Continue transitioning the kernel from the deprecated vm_flags_t type
to vma_flags_t across core memory management infrastructure.
It replaces legacy type usage in core functions such as do_mmap(),
unmapped area allocation, mm->def_vma_flags, and VMA operations like
mlock, mprotect, and mremap.
- "Two small patches to clean up mm/mm_slot.h" (xu xin)
Refactor mm_slot.h by introducing mm_slot_remove() to unify duplicate
slot deletion sequences in khugepaged and KSM. It also adds code
documentation explaining why mm_slot_lookup and mm_slot_insert must
remain as preprocessor macros rather than static inline functions.
- "mm/damon/core: hide core-private struct fields" (SJ Park)
Clean up DAMON core structures by consistently marking internal-only
fields with private: comment tags to prevent improper direct access
from outer layers.
It enforces encapsulation across core structures including
damon_region, damon_target, and damon_ctx and updates DAMON_SYSFS to
interact through approved access APIs instead of exposing raw struct
members.
- "mm/damon: unurgent fixes for infinite loop, NULL de-ref and races"
(SJ Park)
Address potential infinite loops, NULL dereferences, and race
conditions identified in DAMON
It fixes an infinite loop triggered by extreme user configurations, a
NULL pointer dereference within unit tests and minor monitoring
accuracy degradation caused by subtle runtime races.
- "mm/page_alloc: fixes for free_pages_nolock() on RT/UP" (Brendan
Jackman)
Fix an NMI safety flaw in __free_frozen_pages() where freeing pages
on non-SMP or PREEMPT_RT kernels can bypass can_spin_trylock() checks
via non-PCP or isolated migration paths.
It also resolves potential kernel crashes and privilege escalation
risks triggered when BPF tracing runs in NMI context alongside memory
hotplug or large allocation frees.
- "mm/page_alloc: couple of followups for recent cleanups" (Brendan
Jackman)
Clean up and update page allocator nomenclature, documentation, and
debug assertions.
It aligns internal FPI_ flags with the public "nolock" naming
convention, removes outdated internal implementation details from
high-level page allocator comments, and eliminates obsolete
VM_BUG_ON() assertions in allocation paths.
- "mm/mseal: further cleanups" (Lorenzo Stoakes)
Refactor and simplify the mseal implementation by clarifying API
boundaries and removing unnecessary code complexity.
It replaces generic do_mseal() usage outside the syscall with a
dedicated mseal_mmap_page_zero() helper for MMAP_PAGE_ZERO,
eliminates mm_struct parameters to enforce that sealing applies only
to current->mm, and streamlines overall logic and comments with no
functional changes intended.
- "mm/vmscan: fix swappiness=max and clean up per-node proactive
reclaim" (Ridong Chen)
Resolve reclaim behavior bugs and clean up function parameters across
memory reclaim paths
It fixes swappiness=max in both standard reclaim and MGLRU so
unswappable anonymous memory no longer falls back to evicting page
cache, ensures reclaim_store() returns accurate error codes instead
of collapsing all failures into -EAGAIN, and removes the obsolete
gfp_mask parameter from __node_reclaim().
- "mm: mincore: misc cleanups" (Kefeng Wang)
Clean up and simplifies the mincore code. Most importantly, it
removes the historical special behavior that always reports VM_PFNMAP
pages as non-resident.
- "mm/huge_memory: drop dead split helper variants" (Kiryl Shutsemau)
Two trivial cleanups in the folio split API
- "mm/damon: fix uninitialized DAMOS field and kunit exec expectation
bugs" (SJ Park)
Resolve minor operational and testing bugs in DAMON identified by
Sashiko. It initializes the damos->last_applied field to prevent
occasional efficiency degradation and fixes invalid memory accesses
in DAMON KUnit tests during test failure handling.
- "cleanup for stable_page_flags()" (Jinjiang Tu)
Clean up and refactor stable_page_flags() used by /proc/kpageflags
without altering functionality.
It uses BIT_ULL() to prevent shift-overflow warnings on 64-bit flag
bits, converts folio-specific flag checks to standard folio_test_*()
helpers, and removes redundant CONFIG_PAGE_IDLE_FLAG handling.
- "Batch unmap of uffd-wp file folios" (Dev Jain)
Extend batched folio unmapping support to file folios within
userfaultfd write-protect (uffd-wp) VMAs by adding batching
capabilities to pte_install_uffd_wp_if_needed().
This removes special-case restrictions on uffd-wp VMAs in
try_to_unmap_one(), significantly simplifying the function's control
flow and complexity.
- "mm/early_ioremap: clarify and clean up early_ioremap_reset()"
(Sang-Heon Jeon)
Clarify and clean up the architecture-specific usage of
__late_set_fixmap() and __late_clear_fixmap() after
early_ioremap_reset()
It adds explicit documentation regarding when early_ioremap_reset()
must be called and removes redundant macro definitions and reset
calls in the RISC-V and ARM64 architectures.
- "mm: fix reclaim storms in defrag_mode" (Johannes Weiner)
Address severe performance regressions, swap storms, and spurious
OOMs caused by vm.defrag_mode=1 under high memory pressure in Meta
production
It updates the page allocator slowpath so non-movable allocation
requests actively trigger direct reclaim and direct compaction at
pageblock_order scale, allowing them to claim whole pageblocks rather
than spinning unproductively.
- "zram: lockmap tweaks" (Sebastian Siewior)
Optimize and fix lockdep tracking for zram devices by consolidating
per-entry lockmaps and isolate lock classes across multiple instances
This reduces memory overhead by replacing per-entry lockdep_map
instances with a single map per struct zram, and assigns a dynamic
lock_class_key to each instance to prevent false deadlock reports
when different zram devices are backed by distinct filesystems.

There is no atomic mechanism to offline and remove an entire
multi-block DAX kmem device. This is presently done in two steps:
1. offline all
2. remove all
This creates a race condition where another entity operates directly on
the memory blocks and can cause hot-unplug to fail / unbind to deadlock.
Add a new 'state' sysfs attribute that enables an atomic whole-device
hotplug operation across its entire memory region.
daxX.Y/state mirrors the per-block memoryX/state ABI:
- [offline, online, online_kernel, online_movable]
- "unplugged" - is added specifically for dax0.0/state
The valid writable states include:
- "unplugged": memory blocks are not present
- "online": memory is online, zone chosen by the kernel
- "online_kernel": memory is online in ZONE_NORMAL
- "online_movable": memory is online in ZONE_MOVABLE
Valid transitions:
- unplugged -> online[_kernel|_movable]
- online[_kernel|_movable] -> unplugged
- offline -> unplugged
A device can only be onlined from "unplugged", so it must be returned
there before being onlined into a different state.
For backwards compatibility the memory blocks are always created at probe
- existing tools expect them to be present after kmem binds.
"offline" is therefore a reportable state but is not writable: it only
arises from the legacy auto_online_blocks=offline policy. Onlining such a
device through this attribute requires unplugging it first in an effort to
get drivers creating DAX devices to set a default.
Unplug is atomic across the whole device: dax_kmem_do_hotremove() collects
every added range and offlines/removes them in one operation. Either the
operation succeeds or is entirely rolled back.
Unbind Note:
An offline dax device memory is removed on unbind as before.
If online at unbind, the resources are leaked (as before), but now
we prevent deadlock if a memory region is impossible to hotremove.

Refactor kmem _probe() _remove() by extracting init, cleanup, hotplug, and
hot-remove logic into separate helper functions:
- dax_kmem_init_resources: inits IO_RESOURCE w/ request_mem_region
- dax_kmem_cleanup_resources: cleans up initialized IO_RESOURCE
- dax_kmem_do_hotplug: handles memory region reservation and adding
- dax_kmem_do_hotremove: handles memory removal and resource cleanup
This is a pure refactoring with no functional change. The helpers will
enable future extensions to support more granular control over memory
hotplug operations.
We need to split hotplug/hotunplug and init/cleanup in order to have the
resources available for hot-add. Otherwise, when probe occurs, the dax
devices are never added to sysfs because the resources are never
registered.
Detaching hotunplug/cleanup allows us to re-use the hotunplug code without
destroying the underlying resources.

Patch series "dax/kmem: atomic whole-device hotplug via sysfs", v7.
The dax kmem driver onlines memory during probe using the system default
policy, with no atomic control for the state of an entire region at
runtime - only by toggling individual memory blocks.
Offlining and removing a whole region therefore races with other userland
controllers that interfere between the two steps.
This series adds a sysfs "state" attribute for atomic whole-device hotplug
control, plus the mm and dax plumbing to support it.
Transitions are atomic across every range of the device. The state names
mirror the per-block memoryX/state ABI with one modification:
- "unplugged": memory blocks are not present
- "online": online as system RAM, zone chosen by the kernel
- "online_kernel": online in ZONE_NORMAL
- "online_movable": online in ZONE_MOVABLE
"offline" (blocks present but offline) is reportable for backward
compatibility but is not writable because it entices the race condition we
are trying to solve (separate atomic steps for offline and unplug).
'unplugged' (atomic offline+remove of the whole device) is the new
capability provided by the new kmem sysfs attribute.
dax/kmem probe still creates the memory blocks by default when the default
policy is "offline", to preserve backwards compatibility.
This patch (of 10):
Memory hotplug operations require ranges aligned to memory block
boundaries. This is a generic operation for hotplug.
Add memory_block_aligned_range() as a common helper in <linux/memory.h>
that aligns the start address up and end address down to memory block
boundaries. Guard against end underflow when the range falls below the
first memory block boundary, returning an empty range instead.
Update dax/kmem to use this helper.

Clear holder_ops before holder_data so that a concurrent fs_dax_get()
cannot have its newly installed holder_ops overwritten. cmpxchg()
provides release ordering on weakly-ordered architectures, ensuring the
WRITE_ONCE(holder_ops, NULL) store is visible to any CPU that observes
the holder_data release.
Add a WARN_ON() that fires only when the cmpxchg observes a non-NULL
value that is not @holder, i.e. fs_put_dax() called by something that
is not the current holder. That is an API contract violation; the
WARN_ON() does not prevent the damage but makes the bug visible.
A NULL cmpxchg result is deliberately tolerated: kill_dax() clears
holder_data while a holder is still attached when a device is removed
out from under a mounted filesystem (after delivering MF_MEM_PRE_REMOVE).
The holder's subsequent fs_put_dax() - e.g. xfs_free_buftarg() after a
forced shutdown - then legitimately finds holder_data already NULL, so
warning on that case would turn supported device removal into a splat
(or a panic with panic_on_warn).
Also add a kerneldoc comment documenting that fs_put_dax() must only
be called by the current holder.

dax_holder_notify_failure() reads dax_dev->holder_ops twice without
READ_ONCE() -- once for the NULL check and once for the indirect
notify_failure() call. A concurrent fs_put_dax() can clear holder_ops
between the two reads, so the check can observe a non-NULL pointer while
the call dereferences NULL. (kill_dax() also clears holder_ops, but only
after synchronize_srcu(), so it cannot race a reader that is inside
dax_read_lock(); fs_put_dax() does no such synchronization.)
Fetch holder_ops once into a local with READ_ONCE() so the NULL check and
the indirect call observe the same value.

Use __va(phys) instead of virt_addr + linear_offset for the kaddr
return in __fsdev_dax_direct_access(). The previous code added a
device-linear byte offset to virt_addr (which is __va of ranges[0]),
but for multi-range devices with physical gaps between ranges, this
linear arithmetic crosses the gap and produces a wrong kernel virtual
address. Using __va(phys) where phys comes from dax_pgoff_to_phys()
is correct for any range layout because the direct map translates
each physical address independently.
This leaves dev_dax->virt_addr write-only, so remove the field
(suggested by Dave Jiang).

fsdev_dax_probe() sets pgmap->ops = &fsdev_pagemap_ops and
pgmap->owner = dev_dax, but nothing ever clears them. For a dynamic
device the pgmap is devm-allocated and freed on unbind, so this is
harmless. For a static device the pgmap is the shared, long-lived one
owned by the dax bus (kill_dev_dax() only NULLs dev_dax->pgmap for the
non-static case), and device.c's probe sets only pgmap->type, never
clearing ops/owner.
So after fsdev unbinds a static device the stale fsdev_pagemap_ops
survives on the shared pgmap. If the device is then rebound to
device_dax (MEMORY_DEVICE_GENERIC, which installs no ->memory_failure),
or the fsdev_dax module is unloaded, a subsequent memory_failure on that
pgmap dispatches through the stale -- and possibly freed -- handler.
Register a devm action that clears pgmap->ops and pgmap->owner on unbind,
symmetric with setting them at probe, so the pgmap carries no fsdev state
once fsdev is detached.

After the dynamic path set dev_dax->pgmap, any later probe failure left
dev_dax->pgmap dangling: devres frees the devm_kzalloc'd pgmap on probe
failure, and subsequent probe attempts would hit the "dynamic-dax with
pre-populated page map" check and fail permanently.
Factor pgmap acquisition out into fsdev_acquire_pgmap(), and defer the
dev_dax->pgmap assignment until probe can no longer fail. A failed probe
now never publishes the pointer at all, so there is nothing to unwind.
This also matches kill_dev_dax(), which already clears the dynamic pgmap
pointer on unbind: dev_dax->pgmap is now non-NULL only while the pgmap
is actually valid.

Fix memory_failure offset calculation for multi-range devices. The old
code subtracted ranges[0].range.start from the faulting PFN's physical
address, which produces an incorrect (inflated) logical offset when the
PFN falls in ranges[1] or beyond due to physical gaps between ranges.
Add fsdev_pfn_to_offset() to walk the range list and compute the correct
device-linear byte offset relative to ranges[0].start (the device data
start) -- the base the holder (xfs, famfs) maps from -- for both static
and dynamic devices.
V5 walked the pagemap's immutable pgmap->ranges[] instead, to avoid
reading the mutable dev_dax->ranges[] from this callback. That had a
different problem: it regressed static devices, where pgmap->ranges[0].start
can sit data_offset below the data start, so the reported offset came out
data_offset too high and the holder would act on the wrong blocks. For
dynamic devices the two arrays are identical, so pgmap->ranges[] only ever
helped the dynamic case while breaking the static one. Walk
dev_dax->ranges[] instead. (Richard Cheng spotted the static regression.)
Reading dev_dax->ranges[] here may race a concurrent krealloc() of the
range array via sysfs (mapping_store(), under dax_region_rwsem, which
this ->memory_failure callback does not hold). That exposure is
pre-existing -- the original single-range code read dev_dax->ranges[0]
locklessly as well -- so this patch does not make it worse; a proper fix
(locking or snapshotting) belongs in a separate change.

The dax_region resource conflict in alloc_dax_region() indicates a
serious configuration problem — two subsystems (e.g. dax_hmem and
dax_cxl) are attempting to register overlapping address ranges. This is
not a transient or debug-level condition; it represents a genuine
resource conflict that an administrator needs to be aware of.
Promote the log level from dev_dbg() to dev_err() so that the conflict
is visible by default without requiring dynamic debug to be enabled.

When dev_dax_kmem_probe() partially succeeds (at least one range is
mapped) but a subsequent range fails request_mem_region() or
add_memory_driver_managed(), the probe silently continues, ultimately
returning success, but with the corresponding range resource NULL'ed out.
dev_dax_kmem_remove() iterates over all dax_device ranges regardless of if
the underlying resource exists. When remove_memory() is called later, it
returns 0 because the memory was never added which causes
dev_dax_kmem_remove() to incorrectly assume the (nonexistent) resource can
be removed and attempts cleanup on a NULL pointer.
Fix this by skipping these ranges altogether, noting that these cases are
considered success, such that the cleanup is still reached when all
actually-added ranges are successfully removed.

Patch series "mm: vma flag tweaks".
The ongoing work around introducing non-system word VMA flags has
introduced a number of helper functions and macros to make life easier
when working with these flags and to make conversions from the legacy use
of VM_xxx flags more straightforward.
This series improves these to reduce confusion as to what they do and to
improve consistency and readability.
Firstly the series renames vma_flags_test() to vma_flags_test_any() to
make it abundantly clear that this function tests whether any of the flags
are set (as opposed to vma_flags_test_all()).
It then renames vma_desc_test_flags() to vma_desc_test_any() for the same
reason. Note that we drop the 'flags' suffix here, as
vma_desc_test_any_flags() would be cumbersome and 'test' implies a flag
test.
Similarly, we rename vma_test_all_flags() to vma_test_all() for
consistency.
Next, we have a couple of instances (erofs, zonefs) where we are now
testing for vma_desc_test_any(desc, VMA_SHARED_BIT) &&
vma_desc_test_any(desc, VMA_MAYWRITE_BIT).
This is silly, so this series introduces vma_desc_test_all() so these
callers can instead invoke vma_desc_test_all(desc, VMA_SHARED_BIT,
VMA_MAYWRITE_BIT).
We then observe that quite a few instances of vma_flags_test_any() and
vma_desc_test_any() are in fact only testing against a single flag.
Using the _any() variant here is just confusing - 'any' of single item
reads strangely and is liable to cause confusion.
So in these instances the series reintroduces vma_flags_test() and
vma_desc_test() as helpers which test against a single flag.
The fact that vma_flags_t is a struct and that vma_flag_t utilises sparse
to avoid confusion with vm_flags_t makes it impossible for a user to
misuse these helpers without it getting flagged somewhere.
The series also updates __mk_vma_flags() and functions invoked by it to
explicitly mark them always inline to match expectation and to be
consistent with other VMA flag helpers.
It also renames vma_flag_set() to vma_flags_set_flag() (a function only
used by __mk_vma_flags()) to be consistent with other VMA flag helpers.
Finally it updates the VMA tests for each of these changes, and introduces
explicit tests for vma_flags_test() and vma_desc_test() to assert that
they behave as expected.
This patch (of 6):
On reflection, it's confusing to have vma_flags_test() and
vma_desc_test_flags() test whether any comma-separated VMA flag bit is
set, while also having vma_flags_test_all() and vma_test_all_flags()
separately test whether all flags are set.
Firstly, rename vma_flags_test() to vma_flags_test_any() to eliminate this
confusion.
Secondly, since the VMA descriptor flag functions are becoming rather
cumbersome, prefer vma_desc_test*() to vma_desc_test_flags*(), and also
rename vma_desc_test_flags() to vma_desc_test_any().
Finally, rename vma_test_all_flags() to vma_test_all() to keep the
VMA-specific helper consistent with the VMA descriptor naming convention
and to help avoid confusion vs. vma_flags_test_all().
While we're here, also update whitespace to be consistent in helper
functions.

The fs_dax_get() function should be called by fs-dax file systems after
opening a fsdev dax device. This adds holder_operations, which provides
a memory failure callback path and effects exclusivity between callers
of fs_dax_get().
fs_dax_get() is specific to fsdev_dax, so it checks the driver type
(which required touching bus.[ch]). fs_dax_get() fails if fsdev_dax is
not bound to the memory.
This function serves the same role as fs_dax_get_by_bdev(), which dax
file systems call after opening the pmem block device.
This can't be located in fsdev.c because struct dax_device is opaque
there.
This will be called by fs/fuse/famfs.c in a subsequent commit.

fsdev: Add dax_operations for use by famfs.
This replicates the functionality from drivers/nvdimm/pmem.c that
conventional fs-dax file systems (e.g. xfs) use to support dax
read/write/mmap to a daxdev - without which famfs can't sit atop a
daxdev.
- These methods are based on pmem_dax_ops from drivers/nvdimm/pmem.c
- fsdev_dax_direct_access() returns the hpa, pfn and kva. The kva was
newly stored as dev_dax->virt_addr by dev_dax_probe().
- The hpa/pfn are used for mmap (dax_iomap_fault()), and the kva is used
for read/write (dax_iomap_rw())
- fsdev_dax_recovery_write() and dev_dax_zero_page_range() have not been
tested yet. I'm looking for suggestions as to how to test those.
- dax-private.h: add dev_dax->cached_size, which fsdev needs to
remember. The dev_dax size cannot change while a driver is bound
(dev_dax_resize returns -EBUSY if dev->driver is set). Caching the size
at probe time allows fsdev's direct_access path can use it without
acquiring dax_dev_rwsem (which isn't exported anyway).

The new fsdev driver provides pages/folios initialized compatibly with
fsdax - normal rather than devdax-style refcounting, and starting out
with order-0 folios.
When fsdev binds to a daxdev, it is usually (always?) switching from the
devdax mode (device.c), which pre-initializes compound folios according
to its alignment. Fsdev uses fsdev_clear_folio_state() to switch the
folios into a fsdax-compatible state.
A side effect of this is that raw mmap doesn't (can't?) work on an fsdev
dax instance. Accordingly, The fsdev driver does not provide raw mmap -
devices must be put in 'devdax' mode (drivers/dax/device.c) to get raw
mmap capability.
In this commit is just the framework, which remaps pages/folios compatibly
with fsdax.

- bus.h: add DAXDRV_FSDEV_TYPE driver type
- bus.c: allow DAXDRV_FSDEV_TYPE drivers to bind to daxdevs

The current probe time ownership check for Soft Reserved memory based
solely on CXL window intersection is insufficient. dax_hmem probing is not
always guaranteed to run after CXL enumeration and region assembly, which
can lead to incorrect ownership decisions before the CXL stack has
finished publishing windows and assembling committed regions.
Introduce deferred ownership handling for Soft Reserved ranges that
intersect CXL windows. When such a range is encountered during the
initial dax_hmem probe, schedule deferred work to wait for the CXL stack
to complete enumeration and region assembly before deciding ownership.
Once the deferred work runs, evaluate each Soft Reserved range
individually: if a CXL region fully contains the range, skip it and let
dax_cxl bind. Otherwise, register it with dax_hmem. This per-range
ownership model avoids the need for CXL region teardown and
alloc_dax_region() resource exclusion prevents double claiming.
Introduce a boolean flag dax_hmem_initial_probe to live inside device.c
so it survives module reload. Ensure dax_cxl defers driver registration
until dax_hmem has completed ownership resolution. dax_cxl calls
dax_hmem_flush_work() before cxl_driver_register(), which both waits for
the deferred work to complete and creates a module symbol dependency that
forces dax_hmem.ko to load before dax_cxl.

Ensure cxl_acpi has published CXL Window resources before HMEM walks Soft
Reserved ranges.
Replace MODULE_SOFTDEP("pre: cxl_acpi") with an explicit, synchronous
request_module("cxl_acpi"). MODULE_SOFTDEP() only guarantees eventual
loading, it does not enforce that the dependency has finished init
before the current module runs. This can cause HMEM to start before
cxl_acpi has populated the resource tree, breaking detection of overlaps
between Soft Reserved and CXL Windows.
Also, request cxl_pci before HMEM walks Soft Reserved ranges. Unlike
cxl_acpi, cxl_pci attach is asynchronous and creates dependent devices
that trigger further module loads. Asynchronous probe flushing
(wait_for_device_probe()) is added later in the series in a deferred
context before HMEM makes ownership decisions for Soft Reserved ranges.
Add an additional explicit Kconfig ordering so that CXL_ACPI and CXL_PCI
must be initialized before DEV_DAX_HMEM. This prevents HMEM from consuming
Soft Reserved ranges before CXL drivers have had a chance to claim them.

Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Pull CXL updates from Dave Jiang:
- Introduce cxl_memdev_attach and pave way for soft reserved handling,
type2 accelerator enabling, and LSA 2.0 enabling. All these series
require the endpoint driver to settle before continuing the memdev
driver probe.
- Address CXL port error protocol handling and reporting.
The large patch series was split into three parts. The first two
parts are included here with the final part coming later.
The first part consists of a series of code refactoring to PCI AER
sub-system that addresses CXL and also CXL RAS code to prepare for
port error handling.
The second part refactors the CXL code to move management of
component registers to cxl_port objects to allow all CXL AER errors
to be handled through the cxl_port hierarchy.
- Provide AMD Zen5 platform address translation for CXL using ACPI
PRMT. This includes a conventions document to explain why this is
needed and how it's implemented.
- Misc CXL patches of fixes, cleanups, and updates. Including CXL
address translation for unaligned MOD3 regions.

We will be shortly removing the vm_flags_t field from vm_area_desc so we
need to update all mmap_prepare users to only use the dessc->vma_flags
field.
This patch achieves that and makes all ancillary changes required to make
this possible.
This lays the groundwork for future work to eliminate the use of
vm_flags_t in vm_area_desc altogether and more broadly throughout the
kernel.
While we're here, we take the opportunity to replace VM_REMAP_FLAGS with
VMA_REMAP_FLAGS, the vma_flags_t equivalent.
No functional changes intended.

Insert Soft Reserved memory into a dedicated soft_reserve_resource tree
instead of the iomem_resource tree at boot. Delay publishing these ranges
into the iomem hierarchy until ownership is resolved and the HMEM path
is ready to consume them.
Publishing Soft Reserved ranges into iomem too early conflicts with CXL
hotplug and prevents region assembly when those ranges overlap CXL
windows.
Follow up patches will reinsert Soft Reserved ranges into iomem after CXL
window publication is complete and HMEM is ready to claim the memory. This
provides a cleaner handoff between EFI-defined memory ranges and CXL
resource management without trimming or deleting resources later.
In the meantime "Soft Reserved" resources will no longer appear in
/proc/iomem, only their results. I.e. with "memmap=4G%4G+0xefffffff"
Before:
100000000-1ffffffff : Soft Reserved
100000000-1ffffffff : dax1.0
100000000-1ffffffff : System RAM (kmem)
After:
100000000-1ffffffff : dax1.0
100000000-1ffffffff : System RAM (kmem)
The expectation is that this does not lead to a user visible regression
because the dax1.0 device is created in both instances.
