Previously, rmi_f54_buffer_queue() waited for the worker thread to
finish but ignored whether it succeeded. If the worker failed (e.g.,
due to a timeout or register read failure), the queue thread would
silently return success, delivering stale or uninitialized memory to
userspace.
Add a 'report_error' field to struct f54_data to store the worker's exit
status. Check this field in rmi_f54_buffer_queue() after the worker
finishes, and mark the buffer as VB2_BUF_STATE_ERROR if an error
occurred.

Changing the input (diagnostic report type) mid-stream changes the
report size. Since V4L2 buffers are allocated based on the size at
stream start, changing the input while streaming could lead to a
heap buffer overflow if the new size is larger than the allocated
buffers.
Prevent this by blocking VIDIOC_S_INPUT with -EBUSY if the V4L2 queue
is busy (streaming).

rmi_f54_work() reads a diagnostics report from the device into
f54->report_data, sizing the transfer with rmi_f54_get_report_size():
report_size = rmi_f54_get_report_size(f54);
...
for (i = 0; i < report_size; i += F54_REPORT_DATA_SIZE) {
int size = min(F54_REPORT_DATA_SIZE, report_size - i);
...
rmi_read_block(.., f54->report_data + i, size);
}
report_data is allocated once at probe from F54's own electrode counts
(array3_size(f54->num_tx_electrodes, f54->num_rx_electrodes, sizeof(u16))),
but rmi_f54_get_report_size() computes the size from
drv_data->num_*_electrodes when those are set, i.e. from the F55
function's electrode counts. Both counts come straight from device
queries (F54 and F55 each report up to 255 electrodes) and nothing
constrains the F55 counts to the F54 ones.
A malicious or malfunctioning RMI4 device that reports larger F55
electrode counts than its F54 counts makes report_size exceed the
allocation, so the read loop writes past report_data (and the V4L2
dequeue memcpy() then reads past it). On conforming hardware the F55
configured electrodes are a subset of the F54 physical electrodes, so
report_size never exceeds the buffer and well-behaved devices are
unaffected.
Record the allocation size and reject a report that does not fit,
mirroring the existing zero-size check.

In rmi_f54_work(), if an error occurs during report request or command
verification, the code jumped directly to the 'error' label, bypassing
the 'abort' label where f54->report_size was normally zeroed out.
This left f54->report_size containing its previous successful payload
size. If a user then altered the V4L2 format to a smaller size, and a
subsequent run failed, rmi_f54_buffer_queue() would copy the stale,
larger payload size into the shrunken V4L2 buffer, causing a heap
buffer overflow.
Fix this by merging the 'abort' and 'error' labels into a single 'out'
exit path, and ensuring that f54->report_size is always set to 0 on
failure by checking for error and zeroing the local report_size first.

During F55 sensor detection, the transmitter (TX) electrode count was
incorrectly assigned the value of the receiver (RX) electrode count
due to copy-paste typos.
This incorrect value was then propagated to the driver data and used
by F54 to determine the diagnostics report size. On devices with more
RX than TX electrodes, this inflated the perceived TX count, leading
to incorrect report size calculations and potential out-of-bounds
buffer accesses.
Fix the typos by correctly assigning the TX electrode counts.

Some touchpads (e.g. ThinkPad T14 Gen 1) have buggy firmware that reports
a register descriptor structure size that is too small for the number of
registers it claims to have in the presence map. The remaining bytes in
the structure are 0, which with the new strict bounds checking causes the
parser to fail with -EIO, aborting the device probe.
Tolerate such short reads by dropping the remaining (unparseable or
0-size) registers from the list instead of failing the probe,
preventing the driver from trying to use them.

The register descriptor presence register is a packet register, which
means its bytes share a single RMI address. It does not occupy
consecutive addresses, and the register structure that follows it
is located at the next RMI address (presence_address + 1), not
(presence_address + presence_size).

rmi_f30_map_gpios() allocates gpioled_key_map with
min(gpioled_count, TRACKSTICK_RANGE_END) == at most 6 entries, but
rmi_f30_attention() iterates the full f30->gpioled_count (device query
register, range 0..31) and dereferences gpioled_key_map[i], and
input->keycodemax is set to the full gpioled_count while input->keycode
points at the 6-entry allocation.
A device that reports gpioled_count > 6 with GPIO support enabled
therefore causes an out-of-bounds read on the attention interrupt and
out-of-bounds read/write through the EVIOCGKEYCODE/EVIOCSKEYCODE ioctls,
which bound the index only against keycodemax. This is the same defect
as the F3A handler, which was copied from F30.
Size the keymap for the full gpioled_count; the mapping loop still
assigns only the first min(gpioled_count, TRACKSTICK_RANGE_END) entries.

rmi_f3a_initialize() takes the GPIO count from the device query register
(f3a->gpio_count = buf & RMI_F3A_GPIO_COUNT, range 0..127).
rmi_f3a_map_gpios() then allocates gpio_key_map with
min(gpio_count, TRACKSTICK_RANGE_END) == at most 6 entries, but
rmi_f3a_attention() iterates the full gpio_count and dereferences
gpio_key_map[i], and input->keycodemax is set to the full gpio_count
while input->keycode points at the 6-entry allocation.
A device that reports gpio_count > 6 therefore causes an out-of-bounds
read of gpio_key_map[] on every attention interrupt, and out-of-bounds
accesses through the input core's default keymap ioctls: EVIOCGKEYCODE
reads past the buffer (leaking adjacent slab memory to user space) and
EVIOCSKEYCODE writes a caller-controlled value past it, for any process
able to open the evdev node, since input_default_getkeycode() and
input_default_setkeycode() only bound the index against keycodemax.
Size the keymap for the full gpio_count. The mapping loop is unchanged:
it still assigns only the first min(gpio_count, TRACKSTICK_RANGE_END)
entries; the remaining slots stay KEY_RESERVED (devm_kcalloc zero-fills)
and are skipped when reporting.

Currently, rmi_create_function() allocates memory for the rmi_function
structure, but rmi_register_function() initializes the device via
device_initialize(). This split of ownership makes error handling in
rmi_create_function() confusing because the caller must be aware that
if rmi_register_function() fails, it has already called put_device() to
clean up the memory.
To make the memory lifecycle explicit and fix potential leaks cleanly
introduce rmi_alloc_function() to handle memory allocation and device
initialization, and make the caller of rmi_register_function()
responsible for cleanup.

When reading the register descriptor, the base address is incremented by
1 to read the presence register block. However, after reading the
presence register block, the address is incorrectly incremented by only
1 byte (++addr) instead of the actual size of the presence block

read from the wrong memory location if the presence block is larger than
1 byte.

While being less compact, using named initializers allows to more easily
see which members of the structs are assigned which value without having
to lookup the declaration of the struct. And it's also more robust
against changes to the struct definition.
The mentioned robustness is relevant for a planned change to struct
i2c_device_id that replaces .driver_data by an anonymous union.
This patch doesn't modify the compiled arrays, only their representation
in source form benefits. The former was confirmed with x86 and arm64
builds.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

A number of modules in the input subsystem use EXPORT_SYMBOL() and
friends without explicitly including the corresponding header
<linux/export.h>. While the build currently succeeds due to this header
being pulled in transitively, this is not guaranteed to be the case in
the future.
Let's add the explicit include to make the dependencies clear and
prevent future build breakage.

Sysfs interface for updating firmware for RMI devices is available even
when F34 probe fails. The code checks for presence of F34 "container"
pointer and then tries to use the function data attached to the
sub-device. F34 assigns the function data early, before it knows if
probe will succeed, leaving behind a stale pointer.
Fix this by expanding checks to not only test for presence of F34
"container" but also check if there is driver data assigned to the
sub-device, and call dev_set_drvdata() only after we are certain that
probe is successful.
This is not a complete fix, since F34 will be freed during firmware
update, so there is still a race when fetching and accessing this
pointer. This race will be addressed in follow-up changes.

Since commit 88785982a19d ("media: vb2: use lock if wait_prepare/finish
are NULL") it is no longer needed to set the wait_prepare/finish
vb2_ops callbacks as long as the lock field in vb2_queue is set.
Since the vb2_ops_wait_prepare/finish callbacks already rely on that field,
we can safely drop these callbacks.
This simplifies the code and this is a step towards the goal of deleting
these callbacks.
