Currently arp/neigh_reduce read neigh ha directly which can lead to
partial reads while the neigh is being updated. Use neigh_ha_snapshot to
take a stable snapshot of the address similar to route_shortcircuit which
already does the right thing.

vxlan_mdb_flush() iterates over the MDB entries using
hlist_for_each_entry_safe(), which only tolerates the removal of the
current entry. Contrary to the comment above the loop, the removal of an
entry can trigger the removal of another entry.
Flushing the remotes of a (*, G) entry also removes the (S, G) entries
that were created for its source list, once they are left without
remotes:
vxlan_mdb_remotes_flush()
-> vxlan_mdb_remote_del()
-> vxlan_mdb_remote_srcs_del()
-> vxlan_mdb_remote_src_del()
-> vxlan_mdb_remote_src_fwd_del()
-> __vxlan_mdb_del()
-> vxlan_mdb_entry_put()
Such an entry can be located after the (*, G) entry in the list, as
vxlan_mdb_entry_get() returns an existing entry without moving it to the
head of the list. This order is obtained by adding the (S, G) entry
before the (*, G) entry, the latter with NLM_F_REPLACE, as the addition
of the source otherwise fails with -EEXIST. The (S, G) entry is then the
entry saved by hlist_for_each_entry_safe() and it is freed while the
(*, G) entry is processed. The next iteration calls hlist_del() on it
again, writing LIST_POISON1 to LIST_POISON2 [1].
Besides device deletion, the flush is also reachable from RTM_DELMDB
with NLM_F_BULK.
Fix by re-reading the next entry after the remotes were flushed. The
current entry cannot be removed by this flush, as source lists can only
be configured on (*, G) entries and the removed entries are (S, G)
entries. It is therefore still linked and its next pointer reflects the
removals.

The VXLAN VNI filter entry policy declares the GROUP/GROUP6 address
attributes as NLA_BINARY with only a maximum length, so validate_nla()
accepts a payload shorter than the address. The GROUP consumer reads it
with nla_get_in_addr(), an unconditional 4-byte load, so a short
attribute over-reads up to 3 bytes of uninitialised slab data, which are
stored into remote_ip and echoed back via RTM_GETTUNNEL, disclosing
kernel memory.
Switch both entries to NLA_POLICY_EXACT_LEN() so the validator rejects
any GROUP/GROUP6 that is not exactly 4 / 16 bytes; a valid address is
always sent at full width.

A non-nexthop FDB entry is expected to have at least one remote while it
remains reachable through the FDB hash table. A filtered bulk flush
violates this invariant when every remote matches: It unlinks the last
remote in vxlan_fdb_dst_destroy() and only afterwards tells vxlan_flush()
to destroy the parent FDB entry.
An RCU reader can find the parent during this interval.
first_remote_rcu() then applies list_entry_rcu() to the empty list head,
producing an invalid remote pointer that the receive learning path can
read from and write to.
When a matching remote is the sole remaining remote, leave it linked and
ask the caller to destroy the entire FDB entry. vxlan_fdb_destroy() keeps
the remote attached while sending the deletion notification and removing
the parent from the lookup structures.

vxlan_changelink() arms vxlan->age_timer whenever the requested ageing
interval differs from the configured one:
if (conf.age_interval != vxlan->cfg.age_interval)
mod_timer(&vxlan->age_timer, jiffies);
There is no netif_running() test, so the timer is armed even on a device
that was never brought up. The only synchronous cancel in the driver is
the timer_delete_sync() in vxlan_stop(), which is .ndo_stop.
netif_close_many() drops devices without IFF_UP before
__dev_close_many() runs, so that cancel is skipped for such a device.
vxlan_setup() sets dev->needs_free_netdev = true and age_timer is a
member of struct vxlan_dev, so free_netdev() releases the allocation the
timer lives in while it is still queued on a timer_base.
expire_timers() unlinks the entry before it loads timer->function, so
the timer core writes through the freed object's list pointers:

The rtnl operations involved are netns-scoped, so an unprivileged user
can perform them in a new user and network namespace.
Arming the timer on a down device never had an effect: vxlan_cleanup()
returns early on !netif_running(), and vxlan_open() arms the timer for
any non-zero interval once the device is brought up. Add the missing
test.

In vxlan_xmit(), arp_reduce(), and vxlan_mdb_entry_skb_get(), pskb_may_pull() was
being called to verify the availability of network layer headers (ARP, IPv6/ND,
IP/IPv6 MDB keys).
However, during transmit skb->data points to the MAC header, so skb_network_offset(skb)
is ETH_HLEN (14 bytes). Using pskb_may_pull(skb, len) only checks len bytes from skb->data
rather than skb_network_offset(skb) + len, which can leave part of the network header
in non-linear frags.
Replace these remaining pskb_may_pull() calls with pskb_network_may_pull() to properly
account for the MAC header offset.

route_shortcircuit() currently calls pskb_may_pull(skb, sizeof(struct iphdr))
(or ipv6hdr), which checks if bytes are available starting from skb->data.
However, in vxlan_xmit(), skb->data points to the MAC header, so
skb_network_offset(skb) is ETH_HLEN (14 bytes). Using pskb_may_pull(skb, 20)
only checks 20 bytes from skb->data (which is 14 bytes MAC header + 6 bytes of
IP header), leaving the rest of the IP header potentially un-pulled in non-linear
frags. Subsequent dereferences of ip_hdr(skb)->daddr can read beyond the pulled
linear buffer length.
Fix this by using pskb_network_may_pull(), which adds skb_network_offset(skb) to
the length check to ensure the full network header is present in the linear buffer.

The neighbour hardware address n->ha can be updated asynchronously by the
neighbour subsystem, protected by n->ha_lock seqlock. Reading n->ha without
holding the seqlock loop can lead to torn reads or reading a partially updated
MAC address.
Use neigh_ha_snapshot() in route_shortcircuit() to safely copy n->ha under
read_seqbegin()/read_seqretry() lock protection before using it.
Note that arp_reduce() and neigh_reduce() seem to have the same issue
left for future patches.

When route_shortcircuit() performs L3 short-circuit routing, it modifies
the Ethernet header of the skb in-place:
memcpy(eth_hdr(skb)->h_source, eth_hdr(skb)->h_dest, dev->addr_len);
memcpy(eth_hdr(skb)->h_dest, n->ha, dev->addr_len);
If the incoming skb is cloned (for example by packet sockets, tcpdump, or
dev_queue_xmit), modifying the Ethernet header without uncloning can corrupt
the packet header for other readers holding a reference to the cloned skb.
Ensure the skb header is writable and unshared by calling skb_cow_head(skb, 0)
prior to updating the Ethernet header. If skb_cow_head() fails, abort short-circuiting
and return false to allow standard packet processing fallback.

Before route_shortcircuit(), the eth header pointer is cached from eth_hdr(skb).
Inside route_shortcircuit(), pskb_may_pull() can be called, which may
reallocate skb->head.
In this case, returning to vxlan_xmit() leaves the cached eth pointer pointing to
freed memory, leading to a use-after-free when dereferencing eth->h_dest.
Fix this by updating eth = eth_hdr(skb) after calling route_shortcircuit().

A tunnel changelink() operates on at most two netns, dev_net(dev) and
the sticky underlay netns vxlan->net. They differ once the device is
created in or moved to a netns other than the one the request runs in.
The rtnl changelink path checks CAP_NET_ADMIN only against dev_net(dev),
so a caller privileged there but not in vxlan->net can rewrite a vxlan
device whose underlay lives in vxlan->net.
vxlan_changelink() validates and applies the new configuration against
vxlan->net (vxlan_config_validate(vxlan->net, ...)) and can reopen the
underlay socket in that netns, so the same reasoning as the tunnel
changelink series applies here.
Gate vxlan_changelink() with rtnl_dev_link_net_capable(), at the top of
the op before any attribute is parsed, matching ipgre_changelink() and
the rest of the "require CAP_NET_ADMIN in the device netns for
changelink" series.

When replacing the source list of an MDB remote entry, all existing
sources are first marked for deletion and vxlan_mdb_remote_srcs_add()
is then called to add the new source list. Sources present in the new
list have their deletion mark cleared, and any sources left marked
afterwards are removed.
If vxlan_mdb_remote_srcs_add() fails partway through, its error path
deletes all entries on the remote's source list. That rollback is only
correct for its other caller, vxlan_mdb_remote_add(), where the remote
was just allocated and the list contains solely entries added during
the call. On the replace path the list also holds pre-existing sources,
so a failed replace tears them down together with their (S, G)
forwarding entries instead of leaving the entry unchanged.
This is reachable from an existing (*, G) remote. An EXCLUDE filter
that loses sources starts forwarding traffic that should be blocked,
while an INCLUDE filter that loses sources drops traffic that should be
forwarded.
Mark entries created during the current pass with a new
VXLAN_SGRP_F_NEW flag. On failure, delete only those entries and clear
the deletion mark on the pre-existing ones, so a failed replace leaves
the source list untouched. Retain the flag until the whole operation
succeeds and then clear it. Also stop vxlan_mdb_remote_src_add() from
deleting a pre-existing entry it only looked up when adding that
entry's forwarding entry fails.

When a VNI is re-added with the same attributes (e.g. same group or no
group), vxlan_vni_update() sends a spurious RTM_NEWTUNNEL notification
even though nothing changed.
The bug is that 'if (changed)' tests whether the pointer is non-NULL,
not the bool value it points to. Since every caller passes a valid
pointer, the condition is always true and the notification fires
unconditionally.
Fix by dereferencing the pointer: 'if (*changed)'.
Reproducer:

When a new VNI is added to a vxlan device with vnifilter enabled,
no RTM_NEWTUNNEL notification is sent to userspace. This means
'bridge monitor vni' never shows VNI add events, even though
VNI delete events are reported correctly.
The bug is in vxlan_vni_add(), where the notification is guarded by
'if (changed)'. The 'changed' flag is set by vxlan_vni_update_group()
only when the multicast group or remote IP is modified, but for a
new VNI added without a group (e.g. in L3 VxLAN interface scenarios),
the function returns early without setting changed=true. Since this
is a new VNI, the notification should be sent unconditionally.
The notification is not guarded by the return value of
vxlan_vni_update_group() because, at this point, the VNI has already
been inserted into the hash table and list with no rollback on error.
The VNI will be visible in 'bridge vni show' regardless, so userspace
should be informed. This is consistent with vxlan_vni_del() which also
notifies unconditionally.
The 'if (changed)' guard remains correct in vxlan_vni_update(), which
handles the case where a VNI already exists and is being re-added --
there, we only want to notify if the group/remote actually changed.
Reproducer:
# ip link add vxlan100 type vxlan dstport 4789 local 10.0.0.1 \
nolearning external vnifilter
# ip link set vxlan100 up

Initially, a dedicated workqueue was used to defer calling
udp_tunnel_sock_release(vxlan_sock->sock) and kfree(vxlan_sock).
Later, commit 0412bd931f5f ("vxlan: synchronously and race-free
destruction of vxlan sockets") removed the workqueue and instead
invoked these two functions immediately after synchronize_net().
This was intended to prevent UAF of the UDP socket in the fast path.
( Note that the "nondeterministic behaviour" mentioned in that
commit was not addressed, as another thread not waiting RCU gp
still sees the same behaviour. )
However, a week prior to that change, commit ca065d0cf80f ("udp:
no longer use SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU") had already moved UDP socket
freeing to after the RCU grace period. This made the synchronize_net()
in vxlan_sock_release() completely redundant.
Since vxlan_sock now uses kfree_rcu() and is invoked after
udp_tunnel_sock_release(), vxlan_sock is guaranteed to be freed
either at the same time or after the UDP socket is released,
following the RCU grace period.
Let's remove the redundant synchronize_net() in vxlan_sock_release().

Commit 3cf7203ca620 ("net/tunnel: wait until all sk_user_data
reader finish before releasing the sock") added synchronize_rcu()
in udp_tunnel_sock_release().
This was intended to protect the fast path of a dying vxlan device
from dereferencing vxlan_sock->sock->sk after sock_orphan() has set
sock->sk to NULL.
However, vxlan does not need to access struct socket itself in the
fast path; it only reads struct sock, and struct socket is only
used for tunnel setup and teardown.
Let's store struct sock directly in struct vxlan_sock.
In the next patch, we will free vxlan_sock with kfree_rcu(), then
vxlan no longer needs synchronize_rcu() in udp_tunnel_sock_release().

None of the udp_tunnel users need struct socket in their
fast paths; it is only used for tunnel setup / teardown.
While the UDP tunnel interface accepts struct socket, this
encourages users to store the pointer unnecessarily. This
leads to extra dereferences when accessing struct sock fields
(e.g., sk->sk_user_data instead of sock->sk->sk_user_data).
Furthermore, these dereferences necessitate synchronize_rcu()
in udp_tunnel_sock_release() to protect the fast paths from
sock_orphan() setting sk->sk_socket to NULL.
This overhead can be avoided if users store the struct sock
pointer directly in their private structures.
As a prep, let's change udp_tunnel_sock_release() to take
struct sock instead of struct socket.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate

instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Neither sock4 nor sock6 pointers are guaranteed to be non-NULL in
vxlan_xmit_one, e.g. if the iface is brought down. This can lead to the
following NULL dereference:
BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address: 0000000000000010

Mentioned commits changed the code path in vxlan_xmit_one and as a side
effect the sock4/6 pointer validity checks in vxlan(6)_get_route were
lost. Fix this by adding back checks.
Since both commits being fixed were released in the same version (v6.7)
and are strongly related, bundle the fixes in a single commit.

first_remote_rcu() can return NULL if the FDB entry points to an FDB
nexthop group instead of a remote destination. However, unlike other
users of first_remote_rcu(), NPD cannot currently happen in
vxlan_fdb_find_uc() as it is only invoked by one driver which vetoes the
creation of FDB nexthops.
Make the function more robust by making sure the remote destination is
only dereferenced if it is not NULL.

When the "proxy" option is enabled on a VXLAN device, the device will
suppress ARP requests and IPv6 Neighbor Solicitation messages if it is
able to reply on behalf of the remote host. That is, if a matching and
valid neighbor entry is configured on the VXLAN device whose MAC address
is not behind the "any" remote (0.0.0.0 / ::).
The code currently assumes that the FDB entry for the neighbor's MAC
address points to a valid remote destination, but this is incorrect if
the entry is associated with an FDB nexthop group. This can result in a
NPD [1][3] which can be reproduced using [2][4].
Fix by checking that the remote destination exists before dereferencing
it.

VXLAN FDB entries can point to either a remote destination or an FDB
nexthop group. The latter is usually used in EVPN deployments where
learning is disabled.
However, when learning is enabled, an incoming packet might try to
refresh an FDB entry that points to an FDB nexthop group and therefore
does not have a remote. Such packets should be dropped, but they are
only dropped after dereferencing the non-existent remote, resulting in a
NPD [1] which can be reproduced using [2].
Fix by dropping such packets earlier. Remove the misleading comment from
first_remote_rcu().
