Samsung PWM timer might be used as a clock source on some legacy systems. When PREEMPT_RT is enabled on ARM, regular spinlock is converted to a sleeping lock (mutex-based), which must not be used in atomic context such as hard interrupt handlers. Switch the samsung_pwm_lock to the raw_spinlock, which remains a true non-sleeping spinlock even under PREEMPT_RT. 2026-07-14pwm: tegra: Add support for Tegra264Mikko Perttunen
Tegra264 changes the register layout to accommodate wider fields for duty and scale, and adds configurable depth which will be supported in a later patch. The enable bit also moves from CSR_0 to a separate CSR_1 register. To support the new enable register location, introduce an enable_reg field in struct tegra_pwm_soc that identifies which register contains the PWM_ENABLE bit. tegra_pwm_enable() and tegra_pwm_disable() read/write this field accordingly, and tegra_pwm_config() skips OR-ing PWM_ENABLE into its CSR_0 write on SoCs where the enable bit is not in CSR_0. Update the top comment to describe the register layout in more detail. The clock driving the Tegra PWM IP can be sourced from different parent clocks. Hence, let dev_pm_opp_set_rate() set the max clock rate based upon the current parent clock that can be specified via device-tree. After this, the Tegra194 SoC data becomes redundant, so get rid of it. The existing untyped region still exists with a dynamically sized `Region` type. - Create I/O view types to represent subregion of a full I/O region mapped. A projection macro is added to allow safely create such subviews. - Split I/O traits, make I/O views play a central role, avoid duplicate monomorphization and less `unsafe` code. - Add a `SysMem` backend, and make `Coherent` implement `Io`. - Add copying methods (memcpy_{from,to}io and friends). This series generalize `Mmio` type from just an untyped region to typed representations (so `MmioRaw<T>` is `__iomem *T`). This allows us to remove the `IoKnownSize` trait; the information is sourced from just the pointer from the `KnownSize` trait instead. Building on top of that, `Mmio` and `ConfigSpace` have been converted to typed views of I/O regions rather than just a big chunk of untyped I/O memory. These changes made it possible to implement `Io` trait for `Coherent<T>`. Shared system memory, `SysMem` is also added to the series, given it similarity in implementation compared to `Coherent`. In fact, the series use `SysMem` to implement `Coherent`'s I/O methods. Built on these generalization, this series add `io_project!()`. `io_project!()` performs a safe way to project a bigger view to a small subviews, and some Nova code has been converted in this series to demonstrate cleanups possible with this addition. New `io_read!()`, `io_write!()` has been added that supersedes `dma_read!()`, `dma_write!()` macro. Although, they work for primitives only (to be exact, types that the backend is `IoCapable` of). One feature that was lost from the old `dma_read!()` and `dma_write!()` series was the ability to read/write a large structs. However, the semantics was unclear to begin with, as there was no guarantee about their atomicity even for structs that were small enough to fit in u32. Implement ForLt and CovariantForLt for IoMem<'static, SIZE> and ExclusiveIoMem<'static, SIZE> so that DevresLt can shorten the stored 'static lifetime back to the caller's borrow lifetime. CovariantForLt is sound because both types only hold &'a Device<Bound>, which is covariant over 'a. Since DevresLt::new() handles the lifetime transmutation internally, into_devres() no longer needs an explicit transmute to 'static. Add DevresIoMem<SIZE> and DevresExclusiveIoMem<SIZE> type aliases. While being less compact, using named initializers allows to more easily see which members of the structs are assigned which value without having to lookup the declaration of the struct. And it's also more robust against changes to the struct definition. The mentioned robustness is relevant for a planned change to struct acpi_device_id that replaces .driver_data by an anonymous union. This patch doesn't modify the compiled arrays, only their representation in source form benefits. The SoCs that this driver actually works on all imply OF already. (ARM selects USE_OF unless some archs are enabled that cannot be selected together with ARCH_PXA or ARCH_MMP, ARM64 and RISCV select OF.) With OF known to be enabled a few conditionals in the driver can be simplified. The cycle register is always u32, so cycles_to_ns() can take a u32 instead of a u64. With that narrowing, cycles * NSEC_PER_SEC is at most u32::MAX * 1e9 (~4.3e18), which fits in u64 without overflow. The saturating arithmetic is therefore no longer needed, and the ceiling division can use Rust's u64::div_ceil() directly instead of the open-coded numerator/denominator form. This also drops the TODO referring to a future mul_u64_u64_div_u64_roundup kernel helper, which is no longer required. This mirrors the pci::Bar<'a, SIZE> design and enables drivers to hold I/O memory mappings directly in their HRT private data, tied to the device lifetime. IoRequest::iomap_* methods now return the mapping directly instead of wrapping it in Devres. Callers that need device-managed revocation can call the new into_devres() method. The .driver_data member in the various struct pci_device_id arrays were initialized by list expressions. This isn't easily readable if you're not into PCI. Using named initializers is more explicit and thus easier to parse. The secret plan is to make struct pci_device_id::driver_data an anonymous union (similar to https://lore.kernel.org/all/cover.1776579304.git.u.kleine-koenig@baylibre.com/) and that requires named initializers. But it's also a nice cleanup on its own. This change doesn't introduce changes to the compiled pci_device_id arrays. Tested on x86 and arm64. atmel_tcb_pwm_apply() holds tcbpwmc->lock as a spinlock via guard(spinlock)() and then calls atmel_tcb_pwm_config(), which calls clk_get_rate() twice. clk_get_rate() acquires clk_prepare_lock (a mutex), so this is a sleep-in-atomic-context violation. On CONFIG_DEBUG_ATOMIC_SLEEP kernels every pwm_apply_state() that enables or reconfigures the PWM triggers a "BUG: sleeping function called from invalid context" warning. Acquire exclusive control over the clock rates with clk_rate_exclusive_get() at probe time and cache the rates in struct atmel_tcb_pwm_chip, then read the cached rates from atmel_tcb_pwm_config(). This keeps the spinlock-based mutual exclusion introduced in commit 37f7707077f5 ("pwm: atmel-tcb: Fix race condition and convert to guards") and removes the sleeping calls from the atomic section. With no sleeping calls left in .apply() and the regmap-mmio bus already running with fast_io=true, also mark the chip as atomic so consumers can use pwm_apply_atomic() from atomic context. The calculation of the number of pwm clk ticks from a time length in nanoseconds involves a division and thus some rounding. That might result in duty_ticks + offset_ticks < period_ticks despite duty_length_ns + duty_offset_ns >= period_length_ns . The stm32 PWM cannot configure offset_ticks freely, it can only select 0 or period_length_ns - duty_length_ns---that is the classic normal and inverted polarity. The decision to select the hardware polarity must be done using the ticks values and not the nanoseconds times to adhere to the rounding rules by the pwm core.
