2026-06-22f2fs: validate dentry name length before lookup compares itSamuel Moelius
The f2fs dentry lookup path can use the on-disk name length before checking that the name fits in the dentry filename area. A corrupted dentry can then make lookup read beyond the filename slots. The bounds check needs to happen before any comparison that consumes the name length from disk. Reject dentries with invalid name lengths before comparing their names. 2026-05-22f2fs: support to report fserrorChao Yu
This patch supports to report fserror, it provides another way to let userspace to monitor filesystem level error. In addition, it exports /sys/fs/f2fs/features/fserror once f2fs kernel module start to support the new feature, then generic/791 of fstests can notice the feature, and verify validation of fserror report. 2026-03-06treewide: change inode->i_ino from unsigned long to u64Jeff Layton
On 32-bit architectures, unsigned long is only 32 bits wide, which causes 64-bit inode numbers to be silently truncated. Several filesystems (NFS, XFS, BTRFS, etc.) can generate inode numbers that exceed 32 bits, and this truncation can lead to inode number collisions and other subtle bugs on 32-bit systems. Change the type of inode->i_ino from unsigned long to u64 to ensure that inode numbers are always represented as 64-bit values regardless of architecture. Update all format specifiers treewide from %lu/%lx to %llu/%llx to match the new type, along with corresponding local variable types. This is the bulk treewide conversion. Earlier patches in this series handled trace events separately to allow trace field reordering for better struct packing on 32-bit. 2026-02-16Merge tag 'vfs-7.0-rc1.misc.2' of ↵Linus Torvalds
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/vfs/vfs Pull more misc vfs updates from Christian Brauner: "Features: - Optimize close_range() from O(range size) to O(active FDs) by using find_next_bit() on the open_fds bitmap instead of linearly scanning the entire requested range. This is a significant improvement for large-range close operations on sparse file descriptor tables. - Add FS_XFLAG_VERITY file attribute for fs-verity files, retrievable via FS_IOC_FSGETXATTR and file_getattr(). The flag is read-only. Add tracepoints for fs-verity enable and verify operations, replacing the previously removed debug printk's. - Prevent nfsd from exporting special kernel filesystems like pidfs and nsfs. These filesystems have custom ->open() and ->permission() export methods that are designed for open_by_handle_at(2) only and are incompatible with nfsd. Update the exportfs documentation accordingly. Fixes: - Fix KMSAN uninit-value in ovl_fill_real() where strcmp() was used on a non-null-terminated decrypted directory entry name from fscrypt. This triggered on encrypted lower layers when the decrypted name buffer contained uninitialized tail data. The fix also adds VFS-level name_is_dot(), name_is_dotdot(), and name_is_dot_dotdot() helpers, replacing various open-coded "." and ".." checks across the tree. - Fix read-only fsflags not being reset together with xflags in vfs_fileattr_set(). Currently harmless since no read-only xflags overlap with flags, but this would cause inconsistencies for any future shared read-only flag - Return -EREMOTE instead of -ESRCH from PIDFD_GET_INFO when the target process is in a different pid namespace. 2025-08-11f2fs: add lookup_mode mount optionDaniel Lee
For casefolded directories, f2fs may fall back to a linear search if a hash-based lookup fails. This can cause severe performance regressions. While this behavior can be controlled by userspace tools (e.g. mkfs, fsck) by setting an on-disk flag, a kernel-level solution is needed to guarantee the lookup behavior regardless of the on-disk state. This commit introduces the 'lookup_mode' mount option to provide this kernel-side control. The option accepts three values: - perf: (Default) Enforces a hash-only lookup. The linear fallback is always disabled. - compat: Enables the linear search fallback for compatibility with directory entries from older kernels. - auto: Determines the mode based on the on-disk flag, preserving the userspace-based behavior. 2025-04-12f2fs: support to disable linear lookup fallbackChao Yu
After commit 91b587ba79e1 ("f2fs: Introduce linear search for dentries"), f2fs forced to use linear lookup whenever a hash-based lookup fails on casefolded directory, it may affect performance for scenarios: a) create a new file w/ filename it doesn't exist in directory, b) lookup a file which may be removed. This patch supports to disable linear lookup fallback, so, once there is a solution for commit 5c26d2f1d3f5 ("unicode: Don't special case ignorable code points") to fix red heart unicode issue, then we can set an encodeing flag to disable the fallback for performance recovery. The way is kept in line w/ ext4, refer to commit 9e28059d5664 ("ext4: introduce linear search for dentries"). 2025-01-08f2fs: Introduce linear search for dentriesDaniel Lee
This patch addresses an issue where some files in case-insensitive directories become inaccessible due to changes in how the kernel function, utf8_casefold(), generates case-folded strings from the commit 5c26d2f1d3f5 ("unicode: Don't special case ignorable code points"). F2FS uses these case-folded names to calculate hash values for locating dentries and stores them on disk. Since utf8_casefold() can produce different output across kernel versions, stored hash values and newly calculated hash values may differ. This results in affected files no longer being found via the hash-based lookup. To resolve this, the patch introduces a linear search fallback. If the initial hash-based search fails, F2FS will sequentially scan the directory entries. 2023-01-11f2fs: merge f2fs_show_injection_info() into time_to_inject()Yangtao Li
There is no need to additionally use f2fs_show_injection_info() to output information. Concatenate time_to_inject() and __time_to_inject() via a macro. In the new __time_to_inject() function, pass in the caller function name and parent function. In this way, we no longer need the f2fs_show_injection_info() function, and let's remove it.
