2026-04-22smb: smbdirect: move fs/smb/common/smbdirect/ to fs/smb/smbdirect/Stefan Metzmacher
This also removes the smbdirect_ prefix from the files. 2026-04-22smb: client: Remove obsolete cmac(aes) allocationEric Biggers
Since the crypto library API is now being used instead of crypto_shash, the "cmac(aes)" crypto_shash that is being allocated and stored in 'struct cifs_secmech' is no longer used. Remove it. That makes the kconfig selection of CRYPTO_CMAC and the module softdep on "cmac" unnecessary. So remove those too. Finally, since this removes the last use of crypto_shash from the smb client, also remove the remaining crypto_shash-related helper functions. Note: cifs_unicode.c was relying on <linux/unaligned.h> being included transitively via <crypto/internal/hash.h>. Since the latter include is removed, make cifs_unicode.c include <linux/unaligned.h> explicitly. 2026-04-22smb: client: Use AES-CMAC library for SMB3 signature calculationEric Biggers
Convert smb3_calc_signature() to use the AES-CMAC library instead of a "cmac(aes)" crypto_shash. The result is simpler and faster code. With the library there's no need to allocate memory, no need to handle errors except for key preparation, and the AES-CMAC code is accessed directly without inefficient indirect calls and other unnecessary API overhead. For now a "cmac(aes)" crypto_shash is still being allocated in 'struct cifs_secmech'. Later commits will remove that, simplifying the code even further. 2026-04-15smb: client: make use of smbdirect.koStefan Metzmacher
This means we no longer inline the common smbdirect .c files and use the exported functions from the module instead. Note the connection specific logging is still redirect to cifs.ko functions via smbdirect_socket_set_logging(). We still don't use real socket layer, but we're very close... 2026-04-15smb: client: include smbdirect_all_c_files.cStefan Metzmacher
This is the first tiny step in order to use common functions in future. Once we have all functions in common we'll move to an smbdirect.ko that exports public functions instead of including the .c file. 2026-04-05smb: client: Remove unnecessary selection of CRYPTO_ECBEric Biggers
Since the SMB client never uses any ecb(...) algorithm from the crypto_skcipher API, selecting CRYPTO_ECB is unnecessary. Specifically, it has been unnecessary since commit 06deeec77a5a ("cifs: Fix smbencrypt() to stop pointing a scatterlist at the stack") in 2016. 2026-04-05smb/client: introduce KUnit test to check ntstatus_to_dos_map searchYouling Tang
Check whether all elements can be correctly found in the array. Introduce CONFIG_SMB1_KUNIT_TESTS for smb1maperror_test.ko since smb1maperror.o is only built when CONFIG_CIFS_ALLOW_INSECURE_LEGACY is enabled. We are going to define 3 functions to check the search results, introduce the macro DEFINE_CHECK_SEARCH_FUNC() to reduce duplicate code. 2025-10-15smb: client: Remove obsolete crypto_shash allocationsEric Biggers
Now that the SMB client accesses MD5, HMAC-MD5, HMAC-SHA256, and SHA-512 only via the library API and not via crypto_shash, allocating crypto_shash objects for these algorithms is no longer necessary. Remove all these allocations, their corresponding kconfig selections, and their corresponding module soft dependencies. 2025-10-15smb: client: Use MD5 library for M-F symlink hashingEric Biggers
Convert parse_mf_symlink() and format_mf_symlink() to use the MD5 library instead of a "md5" crypto_shash. This is simpler and faster. With the library there's no need to allocate memory, no need to handle errors, and the MD5 code is accessed directly without inefficient indirect calls and other unnecessary API overhead. This also fixes an issue where these functions did not work on kernels booted in FIPS mode. The use of MD5 here is for data integrity rather than a security purpose, so it can use a non-FIPS-approved algorithm. 2025-10-15smb: client: Use HMAC-SHA256 library for key generationEric Biggers
Convert generate_key() to use the HMAC-SHA256 library instead of a "hmac(sha256)" crypto_shash. This is simpler and faster. With the library there's no need to allocate memory, no need to handle errors, and the HMAC-SHA256 code is accessed directly without inefficient indirect calls and other unnecessary API overhead. Also remove the unnecessary 'hashptr' variable. For now smb3_crypto_shash_allocate() still allocates a "hmac(sha256)" crypto_shash. It will be removed in a later commit. 2025-10-15smb: client: Use SHA-512 library for SMB3.1.1 preauth hashEric Biggers
Convert smb311_update_preauth_hash() to use the SHA-512 library instead of a "sha512" crypto_shash. This is simpler and faster. With the library there's no need to allocate memory, no need to handle errors, and the SHA-512 code is accessed directly without inefficient indirect calls and other unnecessary API overhead. Remove the call to smb311_crypto_shash_allocate() from smb311_update_preauth_hash(), since it appears to have been needed only to allocate the "sha512" crypto_shash. (It also had the side effect of allocating the "cmac(aes)" crypto_shash, but that's also done in generate_key() which is where the AES-CMAC key is initialized.) For now the "sha512" crypto_shash is still being allocated elsewhere. It will be removed in a later commit. 2025-09-29smb: Use arc4 library instead of duplicate arc4 codeEric Biggers

2024-05-01cifs: Implement netfslib hooksDavid Howells
Provide implementation of the netfslib hooks that will be used by netfslib to ask cifs to set up and perform operations. Of particular note are (*) cifs_clamp_length() - This is used to negotiate the size of the next subrequest in a read request, taking into account the credit available and the rsize. The credits are attached to the subrequest. (*) cifs_req_issue_read() - This is used to issue a subrequest that has been set up and clamped. (*) cifs_prepare_write() - This prepares to fill a subrequest by picking a channel, reopening the file and requesting credits so that we can set the maximum size of the subrequest and also sets the maximum number of segments if we're doing RDMA. (*) cifs_issue_write() - This releases any unneeded credits and issues an asynchronous data write for the contiguous slice of file covered by the subrequest. This should possibly be folded in to all ->async_writev() ops and that called directly. (*) cifs_begin_writeback() - This gets the cached writable handle through which we do writeback (this does not affect writethrough, unbuffered or direct writes). At this point, cifs is not wired up to actually *use* netfslib; that will be done in a subsequent patch.
