Pull vfs writeback updates from Christian Brauner:
"This makes sync_inode_metadata() and writeback_single_inode() persist
not only the inode but all metadata associated with it.
A new .sync_inode_metadata superblock operation is called from
__writeback_single_inode(). Alongside it a new I_METADATA_WRITEBACK
state flag is added.
Filesystems no longer need their own mmb_fsync() implementations and
can just use simple_fsync(). All metadata is now written for IS_SYNC
and IS_DIRSYNC inodes. Races where several fsyncs raced and mmb_sync()
could return before all buffers were really persisted are fixed since
I_SYNC now serializes properly.
The I_METADATA_WRITEBACK scheme also fixes the case where a
WB_SYNC_NONE writeback landing between write(2) and fsync(2) left
fsync(2) failing to persist the inode. That problem is not specific to
filesystems using the generic metadata bh tracking, and the ones that
do not are left alone.
ext2, udf, bfs, minix, fat and ext4 in nojournal mode have their data
integrity writeout fixed and are converted. affs drops metadata bh
tracking and mmb_fsync() is removed.
A few other fixes came out of this:
- a UAF in mark_buffer_write_io_error()
- missed inode writeback when racing with __writeback_single_inode()
- ext4 allocating the mapping_metadata_bhs struct on demand
- three fat fixes: a lost inode update in do_msdos_rename() with
DIRSYNC, inode buffer write errors not propagating out of
fat_sync_inode_metadata() and directory entries not being
persisted on fsync(2) of the root directory"

Pull misc vfs updates from Christian Brauner:
"Bigger cleanups:
- The lockref dead-count handling is tidied up.
The open-coded check for a count below zero as the dead marker
relies on information the caller should not have.
- make put_mnt_ns() leave mounts connected. Destroying a mount
namespace disconnected its mounts from their mount points. So a
file descriptor still open on the parent of a mount point could be
used to peek under it.
Locked mounts were already kept connected to prevent exactly that.
But a mount is only locked when its tree is copied across a user
namespace boundary. So a mount namespace set up by a privileged
component had no locked mounts and its mounts were disconnected.
Passing UMOUNT_CONNECTED keeps every mount connected and prevents
that bug.
- vfs_prepare_mode() passes S_IFDIR for directories. I meant to fix
that ago but didn't get to it. So now someone finally did it.
This kills the exception where the mode could be 0 when a directory
was created whereas every other creation operation passed it
explicitly already.
- move long delayed work for ufs, jffs2, hfsplus, hfs and affs from
the per-cpu system_long_wq to the new unbound system_dfl_long_wq.
None of that work relies on per-cpu state and the work item is
enqueued with queue_delayed_work() whose timer is global anyway. So
it may as well benefit from scheduler task placement.
Smaller fixes and cleanups:
- unlock_buffer() and journal_end_buffer_io_sync() use
clear_and_wake_up_bit()
- the pipe page pools are unified into a single per-pipe pool and the
extra wake_up(rd_wait) is limited to EPOLLET consumers
- eventpoll now computes its timer slack lazily in ep_poll()
- shrink_dcache_for_umount() keeps making progress on busy roots
- excess xarray nodes are freed in clear_inode()
- romfs detects hard link cycles
- the user path of nested backing files is fixed
- pidfd holds exec_update_lock around the namespace ioctl

The only time that 'false' is passed as the 'excl' arg to the ->create
inode_operation is in lookup_open() when ->atomic_open is not provided
by the parent directory.
*all* directory inode_operations which do not have ->atomic_open
completely ignore the 'excl' arg.
Therefore we don't need the 'excl' arg. Those few ->create operations
which pay attention to the arg are only ever called with a value of
'true'.
We remove that arg and change all ->create operations to behave as those
thhe arg were 'true'.

When udf_expand_file_adinicb() converts file from inline format to out
of line, we use filemap_fdatawrite() to writeout the data to the new
blocks. However since 36580ed08776 ("udf: Do not allocate blocks on page
writeback") the writeback actually doesn't allocate the new block and
the folio dirty bit is just silently cleared. Thus unless the file is
written to after the conversion (as it can easily happen in case of
truncate up), the data is just lost. Fix the problem by explicitely
allocating the block underlying the data before starting writeback.

In udf_do_extend_file() the total extent length is rounded up to a block
boundary with:
iinfo->i_lenExtents = (iinfo->i_lenExtents + sb->s_blocksize - 1) &
~(sb->s_blocksize - 1);
i_lenExtents is a __u64, but sb->s_blocksize is unsigned long. On 32-bit
kernels unsigned long is 32-bit, so ~(sb->s_blocksize - 1) is a 32-bit
value (e.g. 0xfffff800 for a 2 KiB block) that is zero-extended in the AND,
clearing the upper 32 bits of i_lenExtents. For UDF files whose total
extent length exceeds 4 GiB this truncates i_lenExtents when the file is
extended, corrupting the tracked extent length.
Cast the block size to 64-bit before forming the mask. 64-bit kernels are
unaffected.

The only place using udf_sync_inode() is now inode_getblk() for flushing
IS_SYNC inodes after write and page_mkwrite allocating blocks. For write
the flushing is actually taken care of by generic_write_sync() so it
isn't needed here. For page_mkwrite it does have effect however none of
the other filesystems seem to bother with flushing IS_SYNC inode on page
fault and properly synchronizing such writeback with standard inode
writeback would be slightly complex due to locking constraints. So just
drop IS_SYNC inode handling from inode_getblk().

When setting inode size we directly writeout inode in udf_setsize().
This misses proper writeout of other inode related metadata. Use
sync_inode_metadata() instead and move the flushing to udf_setattr() to
avoid it for udf_evict_inode() where it would be pointless.

UDF could fail to properly write out inode on fsync(2) due to races
with WB_SYNC_NONE writeback. Several racing fsyncs could also result in
some fsync returning earlier than all metadata buffers were properly
persisted.
Fix all these issues by using new .sync_inode_metadata method which
makes sure all inode related metadata is written to disk during any
WB_SYNC_ALL writeback.

udf_read_inode() copies the on-disk lengthAllocDescs field of a USE
(unallocSpaceEntry) inode into iinfo->i_lenAlloc without checking that
it fits in the i_data buffer that is subsequently allocated for the
inode. udf_count_free_table(), called from udf_statfs(), then walks the
allocation descriptor array up to i_lenAlloc bytes, so a crafted UDF
image with lengthAllocDescs larger than (blocksize - sizeof(struct
unallocSpaceEntry)) causes udf_get_fileshortad() to read past the end
of the kmalloc'd i_data buffer.

Reject USE inodes whose lengthAllocDescs would place descriptors past
the end of the i_data buffer, mirroring the checks the rest of the UDF
code performs on descriptor lengths.
This bug was discovered by Artiphishell's vTriage pipeline, which
generated a userspace reproducer that reliably triggers the KASAN
report on an unpatched kernel. The fix below was drafted with the
Claude coding assistant; a userspace reproducer (and the crafted UDF
image) is available on request.

udf_symlink_filler() can enter udf_pc_to_char() with a partial pathComponent header.
Validate that enough input remains for a complete pathComponent header
before accessing it. Reject malformed symlink data that would otherwise
make udf_pc_to_char() perform an out-of-bounds read.

UDF 1.50 virtual partition mapping uses the VAT as an array of physical
block mappings. s_num_entries stores the number of entries in that array,
not the highest valid index. The valid VAT indexes are therefore below
s_num_entries.
udf_get_pblock_virt15() currently rejects only indexes greater than
s_num_entries. A crafted image can request index s_num_entries, pass the
bounds check, and make the kernel read one entry past the allocated VAT table.
Change the check to reject block >= s_num_entries, so the count is handled as
an exclusive upper bound.
A crafted UDF image reproduced this on origin/master commit
0e35b9b6ec0ffcc5e23cbdec09f5c622ad532b53 with a KASAN slab-out-of-bounds
report in udf_get_pblock_virt15().
Trail of Bits has a reproducer that triggers kernel panic demonstrating the bug, and can share it if needed.

When an I/O error occurs while writing the Logical Volume Integrity
Descriptor (LVID) buffer to the block device, the block layer's completion
handler (`end_buffer_write_sync()`) clears the `BH_Uptodate` flag on the
buffer. However, the buffer still contains valid LVID data in memory. If
the filesystem is subsequently remounted read-write or synced,
`udf_open_lvid()` or `udf_sync_fs()` will modify the LVID buffer and call
`mark_buffer_dirty()`. This triggers a spurious
`WARN_ON_ONCE(!buffer_uptodate(bh))` warning in `mark_buffer_dirty()`
because the buffer is not marked uptodate, even though its in-memory
contents are valid and are about to be overwritten.
To prevent this spurious warning, unconditionally set the `BH_Uptodate`
flag before calling `mark_buffer_dirty()` in `udf_open_lvid()` and
`udf_sync_fs()`. This acknowledges that the in-memory buffer is valid and
matches the workaround previously applied to `udf_close_lvid()` in commit
853a0c25baf9 ("udf: Mark LVID buffer as uptodate before marking it dirty").
Extending this workaround ensures consistent behavior across all LVID
updates.

udf_table_prealloc_blocks() and udf_table_new_block() call
udf_delete_aext() on the unallocated-space-table inode while holding
sbi->s_alloc_mutex. When the deleted allocation descriptor empties an
allocation-extent (AED) block, udf_delete_aext() returns that block to
free space via udf_free_blocks(). For a table-managed partition that
path is udf_free_blocks() -> udf_table_free_blocks() ->
mutex_lock(&sbi->s_alloc_mutex), i.e. the task tries to acquire a mutex
it already holds.
On a PREEMPT_RT kernel the rtmutex deadlock detector reports this as
-EDEADLK:

On a non-RT kernel the same path is a hard self-deadlock (or a lockdep
recursive-locking splat). It is reachable from a crafted UDF image via
the write/sendfile path.
The allocator already refuses to recurse on the add side: see the
comment in udf_table_free_blocks() explaining why it must not call
udf_add_aext() while holding s_alloc_mutex. Apply the same rule to the
delete side. Let udf_delete_aext() report the AED block it would
otherwise free through a new out-parameter, and have the two callers
that hold s_alloc_mutex free it after dropping the lock. The block is
already unlinked from the inode's descriptor chain by then, so nothing
can reference it in the meantime. All other callers pass NULL and keep
freeing the block inline, exactly as before.
The out-parameter is pre-initialised with the reserved partition number
0xFFFF, which can never name a real block, so the caller can tell
whether a block was handed back.

Long allocation descriptors carry an on-disk
extLocation.partitionReferenceNum. udf_current_aext() copies that value
into a kernel_lb_addr and returns it to several consumers.
If the partition reference is outside s_partitions, callers can later
index s_partmaps out of bounds. The truncate/free path can pass such an
extent to udf_free_blocks(), where the invalid partition reference
causes a slab out-of-bounds read.
Validate eloc->partitionReferenceNum in udf_current_aext() before
returning a decoded extent. This rejects invalid file extents and
indirect allocation descriptor extents in the common parser, so callers
do not need to duplicate the partition-map bounds check.

vfs_mkdir() now sets the S_IFDIR type bit in the mode it passes to
->mkdir(), so OR-ing S_IFDIR into the mode again in udf_mkdir() is
redundant. Drop it.

On all failure exits that go to error_out there we have already moved the
nls reference from uopt->nls_map to sbi->s_nls_map, leaving NULL behind.

udf_load_vat() takes the virtual partition's start offset straight from
the on-disk VAT 2.0 header without checking it against the VAT inode
size:

lengthHeader is a fully attacker-controlled 16-bit value. If it exceeds
the VAT inode size, the s_num_entries subtraction underflows to a huge
count, which defeats the "block > s_num_entries" bound in
udf_get_pblock_virt15(); and on the ICB-inline path that function reads
((__le32 *)(iinfo->i_data + s_start_offset))[block]
so a large s_start_offset indexes past the inode's in-ICB data. Mounting
a crafted UDF image with a virtual (VAT) partition then triggers an
out-of-bounds read.
Reject a VAT whose header length does not leave room for at least one
entry within the VAT inode.

udf_load_sparable_map() accepts a sparing table when
sizeof(*st) + le16_to_cpu(st->reallocationTableLen) > sb->s_blocksize
is false, i.e. it treats reallocationTableLen as a number of BYTES that
must fit in the block. But the table is walked as an array of 8-byte
sparingEntry elements:

in udf_get_pblock_spar15() and udf_relocate_blocks(). A
reallocationTableLen of N therefore passes the check whenever
sizeof(*st) + N <= blocksize, yet the consumers index
sizeof(*st) + N * sizeof(struct sparingEntry) bytes -- up to ~8x the
block. On a crafted UDF image this is an out-of-bounds read in
udf_get_pblock_spar15(); udf_relocate_blocks() additionally feeds the
same length to udf_update_tag(), whose crc_itu_t() reads far past the
block, and its memmove() through st->mapEntry[] is an out-of-bounds
write.
Validate reallocationTableLen as the entry count it is, with
struct_size().

udf_free_blocks() checks the logical block number and count against the
partition length, but drops the extent offset from that final bound. A
crafted extent can pass the guard while logicalBlockNum + offset + count
points past the partition, which later indexes past the space bitmap
array.
A single ftruncate(2) on a file backed by such an extent reliably
panics the kernel. This is a local availability issue. On desktop
systems where UDisks/polkit allows the active user to mount removable
UDF media without CAP_SYS_ADMIN, an unprivileged local user can supply
the crafted filesystem and trigger the panic by truncating a writable
file on it. Systems that require root or CAP_SYS_ADMIN to mount the
image have a higher prerequisite.
No confidentiality or integrity impact is claimed: the reproduced
primitive is an out-of-bounds read of a bitmap pointer slot followed by
a kernel panic.
Use the already computed logicalBlockNum + offset + count value for the
partition length check. Also make load_block_bitmap() reject an
out-of-range block group before indexing s_block_bitmap[], so corrupted
callers cannot walk past the flexible array.

udf_read_tagged() skips CRC verification when descCRCLength +
sizeof(struct tag) exceeds the block size. A crafted UDF image can
set descCRCLength to an oversized value to bypass CRC validation
entirely; the descriptor is then accepted based solely on the 8-bit
tag checksum, which is trivially recomputable.
Reject such descriptors instead of silently accepting them. A
legitimate single-block descriptor should never have a CRC length that
exceeds the block.

Pull vfs i_ino updates from Christian Brauner:
"For historical reasons, the inode->i_ino field is an unsigned long,
which means that it's 32 bits on 32 bit architectures. This has caused
a number of filesystems to implement hacks to hash a 64-bit identifier
into a 32-bit field, and deprives us of a universal identifier field
for an inode.
This changes the inode->i_ino field from an unsigned long to a u64.
This shouldn't make any material difference on 64-bit hosts, but
32-bit hosts will see struct inode grow by at least 4 bytes. This
could have effects on slabcache sizes and field alignment.
The bulk of the changes are to format strings and tracepoints, since
the kernel itself doesn't care that much about the i_ino field. The
first patch changes some vfs function arguments, so check that one out
carefully.
With this change, we may be able to shrink some inode structures. For
instance, struct nfs_inode has a fileid field that holds the 64-bit
inode number. With this set of changes, that field could be
eliminated. I'd rather leave that sort of cleanups for later just to
keep this simple"

There are only very few filesystems using generic metadata buffer head
tracking and everybody is paying the overhead. When we remove this
tracking for inode reclaim code .evict will start to see inodes with
metadata buffers attached so write them out and prune them.

Mounting a crafted UDF image with repeated partition descriptors can
trigger a heap out-of-bounds write in part_descs_loc[].
handle_partition_descriptor() deduplicates entries by partition number,
but appended slots never record partnum. As a result duplicate
Partition Descriptors are appended repeatedly and num_part_descs keeps
growing.
Once the table is full, the growth path still sizes the allocation from
partnum even though inserts are indexed by num_part_descs. If partnum is
already aligned to PART_DESC_ALLOC_STEP, ALIGN(partnum, step) can keep
the old capacity and the next append writes past the end of the table.
Store partnum in the appended slot and size growth from the next append
count so deduplication and capacity tracking follow the same model.

On 32-bit architectures, unsigned long is only 32 bits wide, which
causes 64-bit inode numbers to be silently truncated. Several
filesystems (NFS, XFS, BTRFS, etc.) can generate inode numbers that
exceed 32 bits, and this truncation can lead to inode number collisions
and other subtle bugs on 32-bit systems.
Change the type of inode->i_ino from unsigned long to u64 to ensure that
inode numbers are always represented as 64-bit values regardless of
architecture. Update all format specifiers treewide from %lu/%lx to
%llu/%llx to match the new type, along with corresponding local variable
types.
This is the bulk treewide conversion. Earlier patches in this series
handled trace events separately to allow trace field reordering for
better struct packing on 32-bit.

This is the exact same thing as the 'alloc_obj()' version, only much
smaller because there are a lot fewer users of the *alloc_flex()
interface.
As with alloc_obj() version, this was done entirely with mindless brute
force, using the same script, except using 'flex' in the pattern rather
than 'objs*'.

This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using
git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' |
xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/'
to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL
argument to just drop that argument.
Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly
more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered:
they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and
the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically.
For the same reason the 'flex' versions will be done as a separate
conversion.

This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from
scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to
avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and
instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union
object instances:
Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...)
Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...)
Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...)
are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...)
(where TYPE may also be *VAR)
The resulting allocations no longer return "void *", instead returning
"TYPE *".

Pull vfs error reporting updates from Christian Brauner:
"This contains the changes to support generic I/O error reporting.
Filesystems currently have no standard mechanism for reporting
metadata corruption and file I/O errors to userspace via fsnotify.
Each filesystem (xfs, ext4, erofs, f2fs, etc.) privately defines
EFSCORRUPTED, and error reporting to fanotify is inconsistent or
absent entirely.
This introduces a generic fserror infrastructure built around struct
super_block that gives filesystems a standard way to queue metadata
and file I/O error reports for delivery to fsnotify.
Errors are queued via mempools and queue_work to avoid holding
filesystem locks in the notification path; unmount waits for pending
events to drain. A new super_operations::report_error callback lets
filesystem drivers respond to file I/O errors themselves (to be used
by an upcoming XFS self-healing patchset).
On the uapi side, EFSCORRUPTED and EUCLEAN are promoted from private
per-filesystem definitions to canonical errno.h values across all
architectures"

Remove <linux/hex.h> from <linux/kernel.h> and update all users/callers of
hex.h interfaces to directly #include <linux/hex.h> as part of the process
of putting kernel.h on a diet.
Removing hex.h from kernel.h means that 36K C source files don't have to
pay the price of parsing hex.h for the roughly 120 C source files that
need it.
This change has been build-tested with allmodconfig on most ARCHes. Also,
all users/callers of <linux/hex.h> in the entire source tree have been
updated if needed (if not already #included).

Add the setlease file_operation pointing to generic_setlease to the udf
file_operations structures. A future patch will change the default
behavior to reject lease attempts with -EINVAL when there is no
setlease file operation defined. Add generic_setlease to retain the
ability to set leases on this filesystem.

All places were patched by coccinelle with the default expecting that
->i_lock is held, afterwards entries got fixed up by hand to use

When parsing Allocation Extent Descriptor, lengthAllocDescs comes from
on-disk data and must be validated against the block size. Crafted or
corrupted images may set lengthAllocDescs so that the total descriptor
length (sizeof(allocExtDesc) + lengthAllocDescs) exceeds the buffer,
leading udf_update_tag() to call crc_itu_t() on out-of-bounds memory and
trigger a KASAN use-after-free read.
