2026-08-19ALSA: pcxhr: initialize mutexes before requesting threaded IRQRunyu Xiao
pcxhr_probe() requests pcxhr_threaded_irq() before initializing mgr->lock, even though the threaded handler takes that mutex. Initialize the manager locks before request_threaded_irq() so an early interrupt cannot run against uninitialized mutex state during probe. 2026-06-12ALSA: pcxhr: Share PLL frequency register calculationCássio Gabriel
The PCXHR and HR222 clock paths duplicate the PLL divider calculation and register encoding. The HR222 variant extends the same format with an additional range for rates above those supported by the older boards. Move the complete encoding into pcxhr_pll_freq_register() and pass each hardware path its existing maximum frequency. The additional encoding branch is unreachable with the older 110 kHz limit, so this preserves both paths' accepted ranges and generated register values while removing the duplicate implementation and its long-standing TODO. 2026-05-04ALSA: Consistently define pci_device_ids using named initializersUwe Kleine-König (The Capable Hub)
... and PCI device helpers. The various struct pci_device_id arrays were initialized mostly by list expressions, some of them using the PCI_DEVICE macros. This isn't easily readable if you're not into PCI. Using named initializers is more explicit and thus easier to parse. Also use PCI_DEVICE* helper macros to assign .vendor, .device, .subvendor and .subdevice where appropriate and skip explicit assignments of 0 (which the compiler takes care of). The secret plan is to make struct pci_device_id::driver_data an anonymous union (similar to https://lore.kernel.org/all/cover.1776579304.git.u.kleine-koenig@baylibre.com/) and that requires named initializers. But it's also a nice cleanup on its own. This change doesn't introduce changes to the compiled pci_device_id array. Tested on x86 and arm64. 2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) With gcc-7, we get a warning about a possible string overflow: sound/pci/pcxhr/pcxhr.c: In function 'pcxhr_probe': sound/pci/pcxhr/pcxhr.c:1647:28: error: ' [PCM #' directive writing 7 bytes into a region of size between 1 and 32 [-Werror=format-overflow=] The shortname can simply be removed, and the longname can be changed into a shorter "name" string that is used in three places. Making it a little shorter (40 bytes) avoids the risk of overflowing completely, but I also use snprintf() here for extra clarity. 2014-10-28ALSA: pcxhr: convert timeval to ktime_tAya Mahfouz
This patch is concerned with migrating the time variables in the pcxhr module found in the sound driver. The changes are concerend with the y2038 problem where timeval will overflow in the year 2038. ktime_t was used instead of timeval to get the wall time. The difference is displayed now in nanoseconds instead of microseconds. As drvdata is cleared to NULL at probe failure or at removal by the driver core, we don't have to call pci_set_drvdata(pci, NULL) any longer in each driver. The only remaining pci_set_drvdata(NULL) is in azx_firmware_cb() in hda_intel.c. Because currently snd_printd() and snd_printdd() macros are expanded to empty when CONFIG_SND_DEBUG=n, a compile warning like below appears sometimes, and we had to covert it by ugly ifdefs: sound/pci/hda/patch_sigmatel.c: In function ‘stac92hd71bxx_fixup_hp’: sound/pci/hda/patch_sigmatel.c:2434:24: warning: unused variable ‘spec’ [-Wunused-variable] For "fixing" these issues better, this patch replaces snd_printd() and snd_printdd() definitions with empty inline functions instead of macros. This should have the same effect but shut up warnings like above. But since we had already put ifdefs, changing to inline functions would trigger compile errors. So, such ifdefs is removed in this patch. In addition, snd_pci_quirk name field is defined only when CONFIG_SND_DEBUG_VERBOSE is set, and the reference to it in snd_printdd() argument triggers the build errors, too. For avoiding these errors, introduce a new macro snd_pci_quirk_name() that is defined no matter how the debug option is set.
